I don't know if it is a problem with heat somewhere (video card, north bridge) or anything else.
the problem is, when playing COD4 after about 20 mins the game locks up and the sound stutters. No artifacts or anything like that. Locks up the computer and the only way to fix it is to restart computer.
what's hard is, there isn't a log made (or at least i can't find it) of what caused the crash.
i thought it might have been the temps so when i used ati tool, i made the fan run at 100% to keep the temps low (despite the roar of the fan). this will keep the temps between 60-78*c while playing, i minimize every so often to check.
nothing else i do causes the crash so far.
and that i can recall, i have played it for a couple of hours in single player mode and i don't think it has happened but only in multiplayer online.
what i have:
2.4 C2D e6600
2gb corsair ddr 800
512mb x1900xtx
965p-ds3 rev 1 bios f7
600 ocz psu
i have not overclocked anything, cpu or even graphics card.
i have recently (3 days ago) reformatted and reinstalled xp pro with all updates, the latest ati drivers, no ccc, just the video driver. and lastest chipset from intel.
i don't know what to check next or try? this is driving me crazy. when i played COD 2, i could play for hours with no problems at all, but it is doing it also now
the settings on COD4 are all default settings, except i changed the resolution to 1024x768, on COD2 i play at screens native 1680x1050
