When I go to install Windows XP it states that the HDD cant be found and I should check the connections. I do and they seem fine. I have the SATA power plugged in and I have it plugged into the MOBO. Any body ahave any ideas why it is doing this? Also how should jumpers be set if it is the only SATA drive im installing.

What motherboard do you have? No jumpers with SATA, unless you're doing something very obscure, so that shouldn't be your problem.

Need more information. Are you connecting it to your motherboard or a stand alone card? Make and model of which ever it is are required for proper help. That said even though it is a single drive you still need to instal the required drivers for the controler be it on the motherboard or on a card. Drivers must be installed when windows install says hit F6 to install any required drivers for raid controller. If it's on the motherboard the proper file will be on the support cd and must be set up on a floppy disc. A stand alone card should come with a floppy disc with the drivers on it.

its the WD800JD 80GB HDD and Im using the Lanparty NFII Ultra B. It is not in a RAID and im using the on mobo controller

I believe you will still need to load the SATA controller driver.

In most cases with on board the driver is located on the motherboard driver disc. Explore the disc on another computer and look for the sata driver folder. You will find within that folder a file labeled make driver disc or floppy. HAve a formated floppy ready and put it in the drive of the machine your exploring the disc with and exe the file. The file will auto load thedriver to a: drive and bang your done. Then start yourxp install on your other machine again and this time hit f6 then provide the floppy you just made when prompted and follow the directions provided by the xp gui.

Good luck kemosobey

PS:If your not running raid you will still have to boot to cmos/bios and enable sata bootable . THe sata drive wont appear in the boot sequence menue until later when you have properly instal the os so dont fret if it does not show in that area until later.

HAHAHAH I've had this happen BOTH times with my WD Raptors

Boot from a Win98 Floppy and FDISK that whore

Create a partition and set it as Active.
Remove Floppy Reboot
Have XP CD In and boot from there.

You'll be fine.. I RACKED my head for over 8 hours one day because I ASSUMED WD would at least have a partition table on the damn drive. I was wrong :D

Good luck.
