Greetings most exalted ones...
I'm building a new box from the ground up and you can see what I got in my sig.
I've been running a RAID 0 on my other box, but have been considering ditching it on the new box. I think it isn't all it is cracked up to be
It kind of seems that progs are loaded extremely fast, but not as fast as I thought it would be coming off.
What I think I want is a really fast drive for my OS and a RAID array for my data. I have a choice of the SI or Nvidia controller on my mb and I also have a Promise S150SX4 with 256mb of Micron ECC ram.
Do you see any problems with running both the Promise controller and one of the other mb controllers at the same time? I was thinking of using three (3) of the Seagate NCQ drives for the array. I don't think that NCQ would be supported on the Promise card, but it might be nicer for future compatability issues?
The other fly in the ointment is whether it might behoove me to try a FireWire drive for my main OS. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
So do I go with the 10K Raptor or a FireWire HD?
