Preface: Just got my new opteron, which is OEM. Buddy of mine is ordering an opty as well, but not going to use the heatpipe cooler and is giving it to me. Until such time, he gave me a regular stock amd hsf that he had laying around. Now on to the problem....

I applied as5, both sides of the retention clips are on, but the black locking arm just does NOT seem like it wants to go down into place. It feels like I'd probably break something if I were to try and force it into place so I've stopped and walked away to make this post. Anyone have ANY ideas as to what the problem could be? On a side note, I can't get the mounting clips to come back off either. :(

make sure the opposite side of the arm is in the plastic square correctly. I have had 2 amd retail HSF's that were a bitch. I knew everything was right and just squinted my eyes... Wiped the sweat from my browl... Relaxed... and pushed harder than I ever wanted to on a little hsf clip... BE CAREFUL! It would suck to break it! ;)
Sometimes if you wiggle it a little while trying to secure the latch into lock mode it makes it a little easier.

They can easily grip lower than their seated spot in the clips, make sure its not doing that when your moving the retention clip and first thing, relax and take it slow :) I get that way with my stuff too, then I come back and realize certain things and end up fixing it better than ever :)

I hate the locking arm. it just sux. On my first rig with a 3500, I just couldn't get it down, so I left if up and it worked just fine <shrugs>
