I'm in need of an IDE to USB adapter that does not have/need an external power source.

kind of like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6740954024

that's an enclosure for a 2.5" notebook HDD. it doesn't require an external power source because it draws the power off of the USB line. but this is an enclosure ... I don't need the enclosure (though I'm thinking about buying it, and hacking it apart.)

I plan on using my adapter for a slim slot loading drive, with the JAE50 -> IDE adapter (which needs a floppy power connector) ... so I would need the IDE to USB adapter + floppy connector and i'd be set ... (this sounds logical? :p)

Thanks for any help or suggestions

you are a life saver! that's an absolutly great find. I will use the 3.5" side to connect to the JAE50 to IDE adapter

and then plug the floppy power cable in to that

perfect.

not a dumb question:

because my DVD drive is a slot loader from an iMac ... they did something stupid and turned the JAE50 interface upside down ... so I'd have to get the adapter from a Mac dealer ... so I would be able to get that kit you have linked there, but i'd have to hack it apart. That's plausible too.

actually I think I will go with that last one so I won't have to have so many adapters LOL

Thanks guys
