I currently have 4 external USB 2.0 2TB hard drives just sitting on top of my computer right now and I was thinking it would be really nice to crack open the enclosures and put them all inside a NAS enclosure and host them on my network with gigabit ethernet for a nice speed boost and to get all these drives off my main computer.
The problem I am running in to is with the NAS enclosures available. I'm able to find some 4 bay enclosures in the ~$350 range but they all require that I format the drives and create a RAID array. I really just want to put the drives in a single enclosure and just share the drives with different drive letters separately.
Is there a reasonably priced NAS enclosure that will just let me share the drives separately or am I going to have to build my own? If I have to build my own, does anybody know of a small form factor case that can hold 4+ drives for (or less than) $350?
Thanks
