G'day my fellow [H]ardforum members. I've been away from the computer scene for quite some time now and I have a friend searching for a new laptop. Now i have a few laptops I've been eye'ing for him, but I thought I could use some wisdom from those much more knowledgeable than myself.

Budget: $1000-$1500

Needs:
-at least a 15.6" 1080p display
-i7
-dedicate graphics for diablo III
-reliability
-brand new
-warranty

Wants (if possible):
-touchscreen

I do plan on upgrading to a solid state drive regardless but if that can be included, its always a plus and so far I've been looking at the following:

Help? Thanks!! :D

Just a heads up, if you buy the Y500 directly from Lenovo, you can get the 750m instead of the 650m.

Not there is much of a difference between them.

Would you consider a 13/14" 1080p or 1600x900 display as if you want it really mobile the new 765M is going to give the performance of that lenovo SLI while keeping the weight down, keeping it single card for more consistent performance and will be appearing in MSI and Sager/clevo models.

These are part of the haswell launch, now normally people say waiting forever is bad but we are getting the launch next month :)

Honestly, weight isn't much of an issue here seeing as my friend just needs a desktop replacement and I know he definitely wants a 1080p display. I'm definitely leaning towards the lenovo for him right now but i will look into that and run it by him. Thanks again! :)

You can do better than a 650M/750M in your price range.

$1189 3630QM, GTX 670MX 3GB, 16GB (2x8GB), 1920x1080, 750GB

MSI GT60 and GT70 are also nice, but might be a bit pricey.
The Samsung Seires 7 17.3" is gorgeous and has an 8870M.

Be careful when looking at the video cards, the 670M is Fermi based, while the 670MX is Kepler based.
Fermi: GTX 670M, GTX 675M
Kepler: GT 650M, GTX 660M, GTX 670MX, GTX 675MX, GTX 680M, GTX 680MX (you won't find this one anyways).

Oo alright thanks for the heads up, much appreciated :D

There is also the new GE series from MSI, 15.6" or 17.3" 1080P screens with the 765M, dual Msata slots and a 2.5" bay and well within your price range.

I will definitely look into those.

Thanks for all the help fellas

I've heard the samsung systems have a tendency to overheat (the 8870M ones).

But since you can wait, I would then either pick up a cracking deal on an old one or pick up the new tech.
