Need help finding a good VGA box

Well I just purchased a Kworld tv tuner box and was very disappointed, the picture was blurry as hell, even at the highest resolution setting. Basically I want to be able to hook my consoles to my monitor (Viewsonic VP171b) without going through my computer. Any suggestions?

I have a Viewsonic Nextvision N6. I watch cable TV and play xbox on my NEC 17" LCD.

I am pleased with the quality. If you have multiple consoles, you may want to get a component switch box also because it only has inputs for 1set of Component and 1 set of composite. a switch box would save you time from unplugging and plugging in cables for each console.

I can play xbox games in High Def because I bought the M$ HD pack for $20.

i paid $170 from buy.com.

It has a crappy remote. I'm gonna buy a Learning Remote to replace it.

From everything i've read, I'll have to agree. While nowhere near the best overall, the viewsonic N6 is regarded as the best budget "vga box" or whatever you prefer to call them. It inputs and outputs 480p/720p/1080i signals via VGA and Component. If you want something clearly better than the N6 then you're looking at solutions that cost >$300-$400. They can be found refurbished w/1 year warranty for $140. Check ebay, pricewatch, newegg refurbs, pricegrabber etc etc because refurb stock is sporadic.

No, you can't. The HD pack is just a set of component cables. If your Xbox's output isn't set to 720p or 1080i, and the game you're playing doesn't support either 720p or 1080i, you aren't playing in high definition. Your picture is clearer, sure--that's because component cables carry signals better than the standard yellow and white composite cables.

Captain obvious there. There's how many games that have 720p or 1080i for the box? But the majority of good games will display in 480p which is a TON better then making the cables for $20 just great. Plus since the composites are incapable of carrying such high resolutions the components are key to playing in high def. Wish I could afford such a box... good idea say if you get a cheap lcd tv that has a dvi or vga (Best Buy's Insignia series for example). There are some made for just the xbox if you search for it on google, only like $75, but only for the box. Course you just mod your box and watch tv from around the world then

Thanks for the advice, I will look into the viewsonic box
