Need help finding a 24" LCD

Hi Folks,

I'm new here, and am hoping someone can help me out. I recently purchased a Samsung T260HD from Buy.com. The monitor came, I set it up, and frankly it doesn't compare at all to my old Dell UltraSharp 2001FP, which surprised me because that is a 3+ year old monitor. My problem now is that I'd have to shell up about $100 after restocking and shipping, to return it, but I really would like to find a 24" LCD that will live up to my old Dell US.

I went with the 26" because I had read good reviews, and I figured I could use the extra screen, but a 24" would be just fine for me, and it seems like there are many more choices. I particularly can't deal with the poor viewing angle of the T260HD and the colors just are not as vibrant.

So my questions to all of you knowledgeable folks are:

1) What should I do with the T260HD? Sell it on eBay/CraigsList, or just suck it up and pay the $100 do return it to Buy.com?

2) Can anyone recommend a good 24" LCD that will live up to my original Dell US? I've been reading mixed reviews about the 2408FPW, but it seems to have all the connections options I want, and is a non-TN which should mean better viewing angle.

3) What is the best way to go about trying a monitor out without getting burned if I don't like it? Buy.com has a terrible return policy, what with the restocking fee, but I couldn't find any in store retailers that carry many of the 24" panels discussed on here, including the Dell 2408FPW. Does anyone know what Dell's return policy is? I couldn't fine it, or can you give some other pointers on how to go about this, perhaps recommend some online sellers with good return policies.

Thanks in advance to everyone

Can anyone at least help me out with some advice on where to buy? I'm pretty committed to buying something new, and off-loading the samsung somehow, but I just don't want to get burned again. Circuit City and Best Buy seem to never carry the higher end 24" or maybe they are all just too new? That leaves me with online retailers, but who has a good return policy so I can return if I'm not satisfied?

The bottom line is that I don't want to commit to owning something until I know that it works well for what I need, and that means trying it out, either in a store or in my home.

If you're searched online and have some monitors in mind, go to those B&M stores and see if they have them set up. If not, ask if they have any in stock that they could bring out and set up for you. Trust me, they want your business, so they'll try their best to help you along.

I've come across smaller versions of monitors I'm interested in at B&Ms, so it's good to ask someone if they have other sizes available. If you like a monitor and want to buy it there, have them bring out a new one and set up for you so you can check for dead pixels and other defects. If it's good, walk out with it.

Otherwise you have to rely on the Internet and forums.

BenQ has a great deal on the V2400W. Basically $395 with coupon code THANKYOU10 and free shipping.

The Best Buy's in my area have tons of monitors to view - however, each time I went to there these monitors were showing a horribly low resolution, blah color video of the Rolling Stones with 85% of the video being black. A few times, I asked the worker if they could put a high resolution PC signal through them. Their reply was always, "No, corporate feeds us the Rolling Stones video and we arent supposed to change it."

Not sure if they really wanted my business or not :p .

My Circuit City has maybe a dozen monitors up, but only two are larger than 19". It's lame. They had the LG W1952TQTF, and I asked if they had the 22" version. The site said I could pick it up at that location, but the guy said he couldn't bring it up in the system, so it meant they didn't have any.

B&Ms are so lame sometimes.

Thanks all, unfortunately, It doesn't seem like any B&Ms I can find carry either of the following 2 I'm leaning towards.

I think I have narrowed it down to either the Dell 2408WFP or the BenQ V2400W. Can anyone tell me if the BenQ will live up to the quality of my old Dell UltraSharP/ i wish I knew what type of panel that was (where they all the same type back when the 2001FP was produced? Besides the connection options on the Dell, what would I lose by going with the BenQ?

I am visually impaired so I sit very close, and thus viewing angle is very important to me. I am also very interested in a great contrast ratio, with very dark blacks. Finally, I really want very sharp text, especially when white on black, so I'd like to avoid the whole white text glowing issues some monitors seem to have.

Also, I know Dell has a full refund policy if you're not satisfied, anyone know what the BenQ policy is?

Thanks all

They have 30-day full refund return policy if you are not satisfied - however you need to bear the cost of shipping. Pretty good return policy!
