OMG big problem! Well i pressed the power button on my new rig praying that it would turn on and it didnt! The lights flash on for a SECOND then its out again. Could it be that i have no floppy drive? or is something faulty? This was in another thread but this is really urgent, i need to pick up the floppy drive soon if i am to work on it today

Could be that you didn't plug both plugs into the motheboard, since my nForce 3 for example didn't just have the one large plug, but another 4 section one in the middle.

Now, being a mindless peice of shit I could be wrong but might wanna check that :p

Woah, calm down! Nobodys gonna help you with that attitude. Check for grounding problems, your mobo might be touching your case. Also, your mobo might not be compatable with your ram. I had that problem with some crap generic DDR.

You're a Gawd and you're calling [H] pathetic? And what's the point of asking the mindless for answers? If you aren't mindless, you should know better than us, right?

Buzz off.

Wow, no replies in 10 minutes and he starts freaking out

Not having a floppy drive certainly wouldn't do that. Lots of people run computers without a floppy. Sounds like you have a grounding problem somewhere. Check for wires that are partially pulled out of the Molex plug, sometimes that happens especially with cheap add-ons like CCFLs.

alright, i was just freaking out, and im sorry, but ill go upstairs and check all the connections again.

All the connections are in fine. I really dont know why it wouldnt turn on at all. Its got me real scared that 650 bux are down the drain

You sure the mobo is properly grounded? What kind of ram are you using?

Mind if I sig that?

Pull the board out and try booting up. I'm willing to bet you got an extra standoff in there.

But then again, only a mindless prick would be stupid enough to do that.

What do u mean by standoff. Im not sure what i mean

Those little things you screw into the case that the motherboard screws onto?

Ahh, so ur not supposed to have more than 4? I put one in each hole rofl
You are supposed to have more than 4, one for each hole in your mobo. You have one for each hole in your case? lol... That is your problem! lol... :p

not to sling s**t but how does one who knows that little become a "Gawd" here... must be whoring the "hobby" forums... and next time... remember... we all have problems... yours are no more significant from our own... so be grateful anyone helps at all... no one here is required to respond...

K, thx

This isnt a flame thread, i was just getting your guys's attention in the heat of the moment, go away if u cant post anything useful... Anyways, ill try to take the comp completely out when i get home, thanks guys

Hey, np. My 1000th post was on this thread! w00t! :D

So do you guys think the case is somehow interfering with my computer operation? (im a stickler for details) I will try hard not to think about the comp all class long in my English class which is in 45 min :)

Check that there is a standoff for each hole in your mobo. If there are too many, it will ground it out, and that sounds like your problem. You can check if grounding is an issue by taking the mobo out and only having the proc, RAM and vid card in, and laying it all on a static-free piece of material (wood, tiles, not anti-static bad), and see if it boots. If it doesn't, the mobo could be rooted. In that case, you could RMA it without losing too much money.
Try this. Then see if the mindless shits here that suggested everything actually helped you.

You guys are geniuses :) it worked with it in the cardboard box. It is a grounding issue. Now heres the stinker: how do i fix this? Thanks guys u guys are aaweosme

Only use the motherboard standoffs that your mobo uses. Easy as that. One standoff in your case for every hole in your mobo. If this doesnt make much sense, im drunk as fook off jack Daniels and Makers Maek. Hope you get it wotrking tonight!

Well, like i said earlier, i was caught in the moment and i was freakin out. I didnt really mean that so i went out to change it :)
Anyways, any takers to my newest question? I thought i had my mobo with the correct screws holding it into the case in every hole. What do i do different? I am not sure if i understood his post correctly

make sure all motherboard standoffs are used when you install your motherboard

any motherboard standoff not used should be removed

also around each of the holes on your motherboard should be a circular metal peice. Make sure the screw diameter does not exceed this metal peice

Also watch out for the back connector plate(where the USB and PS2 reside) Ive grounded out on that a few times.

Ok, (now im just confirming myself) the standoffs are the holes rite? If so, am making sure that those screws dont exede the diameter of the metal peice. On the case behind where the mobo is supposed to be, theres much more holes than there are holes in the mobo. Do i cover those up? Or just fill all the holes in the mobo itself with screws. (just clarifying all of this info)

No, the standoffs are the little, usually copper colored things that go in the holes in your case. You then put your motherboard on top of them, and put screws in to hold it in place. This keeps the motherboard from grounding out on the case. You need to make sure you only put standoffs in where they will line up with the holes in your motherboard, otherwise you can also ground out on those extra ones.

the standoffs are actually those screws you place into the holes on the motherboard

only place the standoff into the holes in the case that match up with the motherboard

the other holes just leave em alone

these things

Well i put it together with all the standoffs in all the holes and all the screws in the right places and guess what! IT DIDNT WORK! Now im gettin freaked out, i really dont know whats wrong with this

You didnt answer one of my original questions...What kind of ram are you using?
