im going to buy a new card today, i have about 250-275 to spend which card is best for this price range ATI? NVIDIA? which models? im currently runnigna gforce4 4600ti and iwant the new card to whip this cards ass....

thanks for the help guys

get a Sapphire 9800pro 256mb, for about $300, and then mod it to a 9800XT
MAKE SURE it is the one that looks like what's up above in the newegg add... those are moddable.

Geforce 6800 - $280

More expensive than the 9800 pro but also quite a bit better. It might be a little out of your budget though.

Don't get the 9800 pro 256MB. The 6800 128MB will be quite a bit faster for cheaper. If anything, get the 9800 pro 128MB as it is under $200.

yes, but the 256mb 9800pro requires a bios flash and then you have a $420 card for less than $300.

fx5700 ultra's clock speeds look impressive? bad card tho?
over all which should i get, ati, nvidia toss up here, i also want a card i wont have to upgrade in 4 months

im running a p4 3.0 800fsb 1meg L2, 1gig pc3200, p4s800 asus, WD 8meg cache 80gig

speeds don't mean much when you are comparing two different chipsets...
e.g. athlon64 3200+ runs at 2.0 ghz, and keeps up with intel 3.4 ghz

Really? the 9800xt isn't faster than the basic 6800? show me some benchmarks!
I just did :)

Anandtech has a pretty decent review. The 9800XT is almost always on the bottom of their value graphs while the 9700 pro and 6800 are almost always on the top. Like I said, I would suggest the 9800 pro 128MB for a more budget concious purchase or a 6800 for faster one.
