I just bought the ECS board with a 2800+ sempron. The problem is that I get a "Cmos checksum error"

First off, I can't even access my keyboard so I can't get into the bios. I read around that this may be caused by a depleted battery, but the board is new.


I have to get this problem fixed NOW since I have a 3-day tomorrow right after school.
 
find the cmos reset jumper and jump that, then plug in computer and turn it on WITHOUT the battery and then turn it off for 10-20 minutes and replace the battery
this should fix it
 
so i should take out the battery completely?

also i'm a bit new with the jumpers. Should I clear the cmos, cause when i set the jumpers to do that, the monitor doesn't work (it still in standby).
 
Your battery is probably depleted. I'd get a new one... You can ignore it for a while if you dont mind your clock being reset and stuff
 
here's the odd thing. when i get into the bios (got the keyboard to work) and save and exit (i don't have to do any changes, just get in there and exit), it restarts and I get into windows. But from a dead start, it'll load up to that checksum error again!
 
yeah check the battery or try maybe reflashing the bios, my cousin works at frys and he says they actually will post test any ESC motherboard a customer purchases because they fail or are dead out of the box soo much. I just purchased a socket 754 w/ a sempron on it and had no probs with it luckily

Because a checksum error has to do with the BIOS setting being saved.
