I googled a cheap but powerful computer: Refurbished Gateway FX6800-01E (http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668210.php) for only $650 and I was wondering whether I should go for it. I was looking into buying a Refurb Gateway LX6820 for $600 but was sold out. I know people have been bothered by the PSU but I just need this to last at least 6 months. I don't do too much heavy gaming and processing.

Should I get it?

For $650 its honestly not bad (even with pos psu, sketchy ram, possibly sketchy mobo). If you don't do much gaming or processing you can get a much lesser system. You don't need an i7 for daily use. Also it only comes with vista, not win7, which is a big thumbs down in my book.

If you don't do much heavy gaming or processing then it seems like a waste of money.

I can't do too much gaming, at least right now. Im getting ready for college, but I want a pc that would last a long time even with upcoming games.

If that is what you NEED, then get it. If you want a better system with a better warranty, do it right.

The only gripe I have is the warranty period. It's refurbished so it probably only has a 90-day warranty. Even it had full OEM warranty, that's still only one year. And the crappy PSU that may or may not last those six months.

With that said, for $650, it's a oretty decent deal. No way in hell can you build a similar performing setup for the much cash with OS included. (Well maybe if you live near a MC) However you can probably build a lower performing setup but with better overall parts and significantly longer warranty if you wish to go through the process of building the PC entirely from sratch.

So in other words: If you need a throwaway system for six months, go for it. If you want full warranty and support for more than a year and high reassurance that the PC will physically last long enough, build a PC yourself.

for that money what we could pick out for you would be much better. What monitor would you be using and resolution? ANy idea what games you are looking to play?
