Need help deciding!

Well maybe but not all games (especially older titles) have good support for 21:9 aspect ratio so you may actually end up playing in 2560x1440 anyways. There's also a similarly priced alternative for the immersion choice which is getting a Samsung 48 inch JU series curved 4k tv and running it in a custom 21:9 resolution so you now have that aspect ratio and the curve but on a much bigger 48 inch display. I recommend the Acer because 144Hz + gsync really makes it difficult to play on anything without it now.
 
Does laggy+stuttery V-Sync gaming or 60hz tear fests sound more immersive than tearing+lag free G-Sync?
 
I'd pick the second option with a single 970. If you had two, I'd recommend a 2160p monitor unless you play a lot of fps games competitively.
 
Guys I'm coming from a Asus 27 inch Ips panel monitor at 1080p so either option will be a big improvement. The monitor I have now runs at 60hz... I'm just a little confused because I'm under the impression that if I get the Acer at 144hz it won't do me any good since my card will only be pumping out 60-70 frames at that resolution...
 
Coming from a 1080p 60Hz display I think you will find the difference in resolution, refresh rate, and gsync to be absolutely amazing. Yes in newer titles you may have a hard time getting over 60 fps but in bad company 2 you will get over 100+ fps easily as well as some older titles.

Maybe read about G-Sync and read some XB270HU reviews before spending 800$+ on a product you don't understand?

I've done a week's worth of research on this topic. I'm leaning towards LG 34UC97 or Dell U3415W because I strongly fear the crappy Acer quality control I've been reading about..
 
If you had properly research you would know that G-Sync works from 30-144hz and that 144fps is not required. The other companies quality control is the same, and the ultra-wide curved mores have more glow issues since the curve puts pressure on all four corners.

I do know that it works from 30hz and up, I was concerned that on the newer games I wouldn't be looking at more than 50-60 frames with a 970... So it wouldn't do me any good to have that kind of a refresh rate..

It's clear you don't know how G-Sync works and need to do some research, and 3840x1440 will provide even lower frame-rates and far more tearing (no V-Sync) or lag+stutter (V-Sync) compared to a 144hz monitor without G-Sync. Plus it's pretty silly to complain about the 970's frame rates when you are willing to spend an additional 300$ on an ultra-wide monitor instead of putting the 300$ towards a second 970.

Yes I'm not very familiar with G-sync because I've never used it before. Money is not an object, and I don't game very much but maybe an hour or so a day since I work a lot so this isn't JUST for gaming.. I decided to get the Dell U3415W. Better quality, higher resolution, curved, and bigger monitor covering peripheral vision provides more immersive experience also much better warranty support if I need to RMA. I also have heard a bunch of good things about this monitor and that the picture quality is out of this world. I'm not always gaming, and a lot of times I am watching movies in Blu-ray... Now the reason why I didn't go for 2nd GTX or Titan or anything else. The titan would not fit into my system (I have a Dell Xps) that I bought at Best Buy a year ago and the motherboard only supports one graphics card so SLI is out of question (not that I care for it anyway). Like I said I don't game much (not like back in the day) so never really cared for building 5-6k computer. Just occasionally watch a movie or two and game for an hour or so. We'll see how it goes with the Dell monitor, I may also buy Acer and compare them side to side.

Only now are you providing more information for how your future monitor will be used, and it's quite different compared to your first post. A 4k monitor like the BenQ BL3201PH would be better fork work and movies (it has very minimal glow compared to most other panels), or two 27" 1440p monitors since it's possible to buy two better 60hz 1440p monitors (LG 27MB85R-B) for the same price as an ultra-wide monitor. Ultra-wide monitors can have glow in all four corners and have inner black bezels which ruin the perceived black depth (example), as do glossy black bezels like the one the XB270HU uses (example).

Would that be better than the Dell Ultrasharp for all around use? Gaming/movies? I am a big fan of BenQ monitors.

Definitely, but it's easier to use two 1440p monitors in terms of text scaling (setting it to comfortable sizes without scaling issues) and re-sizing windows versus trying to re-size windows to fully utilize the 3840x2160 pixel real-estate, and your 970 is too slow for most newer games at 4k, but you should be able to max Bad Company 2. It's possible to buy an overclock-able 27" 1440p IPS (Crossover 2795QHD) and a multi-input panel with a nice matte grey bezel (LG 27MB85R-B for movies) for the same price as an ultra-wide or 32" 4k monitor.
