I was on the computer today. And it just shit off. I then tried to restart it and as soon as I did it went to the windows screen then just shut off again. I tired starting it one last time and it turned on and a computer sounding voice was saying cpu test failed (or osmething similar). it then shut off completely. The monitor would not display during the time it was on. I waited a while and tried to go to the BIOS screen and it worked for a few seconds and then it just froze. Any idea what could be wrong?

I am not 100% sure of the stats on the pc but it is a p4 3.2, and I think it is a asus motherboard. It also has a 500 watt powersupply. What do you guys think?

Reseat your heatsink. Double, triple, quadruple check it to make sure it seated evenly over the CPU. If it is only touching on one side, it'll overheat.

Thank your Asus motherboard for telling you precisely what the problem is.

Yeah, that's the good thing about Asus motherboards. They always tell you in a crap-your-pants computer voice what's going on with your system before everything goes to hell. :D At least, that's what happened with my hard drive when it failed.

Yeah, check the heatsink. If it's on there correctly, you might be looking at an unexpected processor upgrade. :(
