Need Help Cooling a P4 3.4

I can't get my cpu temp below 53c. I have just upgraded from a XP-2600m to an Intel system featuring a P4 3.4 processor, Intel D915PBL mb, ATI 800xl pci-e video card, Corsair 1GB PC5400 TwinX memory, Zalman 7700alcu fan, 4 harddrives, cd/rw, dvd/rw, Aspire XDreamer II case with 6 80mm fans, and a antec 550w truepower ps. I used artic silver 5 for my thermal compound.

I get the following idle temps from Intel motherboard monitor: Processor Zone - 53C, System Zone 1 - 39C and System Zone 2 - 39C. My case temp according to the probe installed with the case is 96.3F.

If I start to play a game such as HL2 or Doom3, or even Swat4 Intel monitors goes off and kicks me out of the game the processor zone temp is 74C, Zone 1 &2 temps are 44C. I have the 2 front case fans and side fan as intake, the 2 rear fans and top fan as exhaust. Any help would be appreciated.
 
Get a better heat sink such as Thermalright.com products.

Get a VGA cooler such as NV/ATI silencer OR Zalman

Apply arctic silver 5 thermal compound to ur CPU.

Exchange all your fan to something better, more airflow.

If possible, next time get AMD64 for upgrade, they don't generate as much heat as Intel does.

I have the same board and chip with the stock fan/heatsink and an ATI AIW X600 Pro in an Antec Sonata case. I've never seen my cpu get that hot. Mid 60's tops running Doom3.
You must have an airflow problem somewhere or like they said, the heatsink isn't on right. I just bought one of these since I can't stand playing Doom3 while my stock Intel fan
spins itself out of control. Hopefully it'll be alot quieter.

Maybe all those drives you have are causing alot of heat. Or it could be a bad sensor. With the Zalman 7700 you shouldn't be getting that hot, unless you're overclocking the crap out of it.
 
I have taken the Zalman 7700 off and reseated by cleaning both heatsink and cpu with 91% isopropyl alcohol. The temps reported by the Intel monitoring system is still the same. The air coming out of the top and rear exhaust fans is cool to luke warm. The air coming out of the power supply exhaust fan is much warmer. What is the best way to measure the cpu temp if I can not rely on the intel monitor. I am thinking of purchasing the Thermalright XP-90c or the XP-120. I have been trying to decide which one would is better and if it could lower my temps by 10 degrees. I just checked the bios hardware temps and it is 65C or 149F the case temps is 39C.
 
Just curious,... what are your temps when playing games if you use the Intel stock heatsink that comes with the processor?
