My ex-girlfriends computer is acting crazy(kind of like her i guess:rolleyes: )

anyway, i know very little about this comp.

when the power is turned on the motherboard lights up(4 red lights in a row and 2 other red lights), the cpu fan turns on and the optical drives light up and i can hear the hard drive turn on. but the comp just sits there doing nothing after that. No beeps, nothing.

her dad removed the battery for a few mins before i got there and that did nothing for it.

all i know about it:
amd 2400
motherboard ???

anyone have any ideas?

Know if anything has been upgraded recently?
Try taking out any new upgrades and putting the old parts back in to see if it might be faulty hardware. I would say make sure the memory and the video card are securly in their slots, but usually you would get a beep notifying you of this.

No upgrades have been done to this comp.

i checked the memory and vid card, even put another vid card in and still nothing.

no, the monitor stays in standby mode like the computer is turned off. I tried my monitor and i get the same with it.

Pull out the memory and see if it gives you a beep code. If it doesn't, it sounds like the mobo may be gone.

You may also want to strip the system to verify its the MB. Remove all external components, remove PCI cards, IDE cables, everything. Just get it down to MB, CPU, and PSU. If ya get a beep code. Try new memory. If no beep code, prob MB or CPU. This also depends on the sys... some don't even have beep codes.
