Need help choosing/replacing a processor!

Hi.

I've had this little Acer Aspire L310 bookshelf computer sitting around that crapped out shortly after I bought it more than a year ago. It's a neat little computer, perfect for the wife or anyone who just wants to do basic internet/mail/photo type stuff.
I suspect that the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 / 1.86 GHz that came with it overheated and crapped out. It's a very tight space. It was also in a hot warehouse office.

I'd like to try and replace the processor with a cooler one and let my wife use it here at the house where I figure the cooler house and processor temp will allow it to run fine.

I was looking at the Intel Celeron E1500 2.2GHz 512KB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor to replace the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 1.86GHz
My concern is
A) Do you think the system would run OK switching out the Core 2 Duo E6300 for the Celeron E1500? and
B) Is the Celeron E1500 any cooler than the Core 2 Duo E6300?

I'm just using layman's logic figuring that since the Celeron is a step below I assume it runs cooler. It's also half the price and if it turns out the problem wasn't the processor I've only lost half as much ;)

Core2Duos and its derivatives, in general, run pretty damn cool.

If you have other spare parts layin around, I'd investigate what the problem is before spending money on a new CPU. If the system does support newer CPUs, it would probably need a BIOS update, which you can get from Acer's support site. However, IIRC, the Intel 946GZ chipset only supports up to the Conroe series of CPUs (65nm).
