Need help choosing an ATI GPU

I need helping choosing between the following made by ATI cards

The XTX 512mb is a bit too much for me, especially since i don't game much (The two cards listed above are probably too powerful for me...)

Though i was also wondering, is DX10 worth waiting for?

It would also be cool if there's a dual DVI output ATI GPU, since i plan on running a dual LCD setup in which both are able to display DVI imput.

PS: I can only buy it from ATI.com, that's the only place in which i can get 50% discount off MSRP.
 
X1950Pro... has better performance. I have one, and its a great card. Also better if you think you might ever Crossfire.
 
I would go for the X1950pro, it is the newer card which is to replace the x1900gt, they have the same specs however the ram on the pro is a bit faster, it also has the donglefree crossfire support (If that matters to you). Also keep in mind that some of the X1900gt's in the retail channel right now are being clocked lower than the previous gt's.
 
The X1950Pro is faster, has a better cooler, is based on a smaller manufacturing procss which will allow it to possibly overclock better, and is capable of dongle-less Crossfire. It's quite a bit better than the X1900GT.

anandtech attempted to overclock the x1950pro and had limited success...

I was in the process of editing my post when you posted this. Theoretically, the smaller process could allow it to overclock more. In practice, I don't know.
 
Overclocking isn't a concern, the most graphic intensive games i've been playing are CNC Generals and CS 1.6, lol.

Might be interested in some other games in the future, if i have time.

Meh, midrange DX10 is not going to come out for a while. I'd get the x1950pro, it's the newer version of the x1900gt and is definitely enough to tide you over until the midrange DX10s finally arrive. I myself might be getting a x1950pro soon.
 
Call me stupid but I just made the same decision and bought the X1900GT card.

My reasons were that I am working on a limited budget for the upgrade and also had to buy a motherboard with PCI-e on it since I am still on AGP. The $30 price difference in the X1900GT and the X1950Pro was almost what the motherboard cost.

Bear in mind I am also on a small form factor with limited PSU, a Sempron 3300 socket 754 and only 1GB of memory. I figured this upgrade would be a smaller $$ one and get me on PCI-e for something better than the X1600Pro I am using and I can build a whole new system next year about this time.

Who knows, maybe this will extend me farther than that but I have never needed to be on the cutting edge of performance.

I pulled the trigger for my recent build and picked the X1900GT due to the price / performance. It is a Sapphire X1900 GT. After I got it from Newegg... I was pretty bummed since I found out its the declocked version. (512 / 1314).

However... After getting my system up and running (C2D E6400, DS3, 1 GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400) it is benchmarking much better then I thought it would.

3DMark 05 - ~ 9,367
3DMark 06 - ~ 4,564

I haven't tried tweaking the clocks on the card yet... so I can't speak as to how much headroom there is.... but I plan on doing that sometime over the next week.
 
Well... after some playing around... I have the card OC'ed stable at 543 core / 1728 memory. It holds temperature just fine. I benchmarked the following....

3DMark05 - 10,137
3DMark06 - 5,014

I'm pretty happy with those numbers. :D
 
I have the X1900 GT and I have no complaints, if you just wanna play older less demanding games go for whatever is cheaper.

X1950 Pro no doubt. If you don't game that much, it will more than suit your needs. It's a great card for the price.
 
x1950pro, just don't get the "regular" one from Sapphire. I have read where other makes are having problems as well, so be careful which one you purchase. The Sapphire "ultimate" solved the problem though. I wouldn't buy another Sapphire since they screwed over all the people who purchased the regular one.
