I currently have an EVGA GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) ... this is the 2GB version. I play Battlefield 4 and the card runs it fine. I average 60 fps and Yes, all my settings are dropped to low/medium, but that's what I prefer playing at anyway. The issue I'm having is I've had it for a few years (Oct/2011) now and I know it's time I replaced it. I don't want to spend tons of money on a card(s) If I dont need too. I've been looking at the GTX 770 and the 780. Which should I choose or is there another option I'm overlooking.

EVGA NVidia GTX 770
EVGA NVidia GTX 780

My current rig
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T ~3.2GHz
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 1866 (PC3 14900)
EVGA NVidia GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 2GB 192-bit GDDR5
Tagan BZ Series 900W Modular PSU

What resolution do you play at? Sounds like you can get away with a 760 for a pretty respectable upgrade.

Yikes, time for a new monitor. Lowest price gtx 780 is $500 so lets assume your budget is that.

You aren't going to have a good experience on a 1440x900 monitor. Not to mention that at that low of a resolution, you might as well get a gtx650 ti or gtx 660 because you will be so cpu bound at that low of a resolution that you wont notice a difference between those and a 780.

For a monitor, get one of these or something like it for ~$200. 1080p and 24" is a sweet spot right now for bang for the buck.

That leaves you $300 for a gtx 770 or a nice gtx 760. You can shift around your budget a little to save money, but a new monitor would be the first thing that I would look at. Even if that means you don't upgrade your 550.

Oh, in that case, the GTX 760, 770, and 780 will all be a significant upgrade. Just pick what one fits your budget. The GTX 760 is about twice as good as your current card just going on specs.

Lol, No that's in-game resolution. Desktop is 1920x1080, HP LV2311

Ahh, k. I was a little worried there.
I have a gtx 780 and I think its great for 1080p native. I would just get the best card you can afford.

If you're going to upgrade to a 1080p monitor then go with an EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ ACX Cooler.

The 780 Classy is generally regarded as the best 780 available. It's also a great card if you decide to do some heavy overclocking.

Currently, the 780Ti is a bit overpriced when you compare the price to performance ratio but the 780 is a good buy and will max out anything you throw at it at 1080p.

How much money you got. If you are strapped for cash then this is the order of items you can purchase:

a) 299-349 = GTX 770 2/4 GB
b) 399 = R9 290 (Good luck finding it though) or a used GTX 780 from these forums
c) 499 = GTX 780
