is this POWMAX Demon 480W Power Supply good enough to run the following system setup (almost my current setup but w/o new vid card and overclocking).

Current PSU: Enermax EG365P-VE (not good enough if im getting a 6800 i dont think)
Motherboard: Asus P4G8X Deluxe
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.8B @ 3.06
Videocard: BFG or PNY GeForce 6800 GT
Memory: Samsung 2x512mb pc2100 ddr (in dual channel)
CD-ROM/DVD:
LITE-ON 48/24/48 CD-RW
SONY DVD-ROM 16x
NEC DVD-RW 8x

WD Raptor 36.7 GB 10,000 RPM
WD CaviarSE 80 GB 7200 RPM
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer

misc internal:

misc external:

Are there any better 450+ watt PSUs I can get that are around the $25 - $40 range?

i would NEVER buy that psu. first of all, the 12v line only has 17a, its made by powmax(???), and, i know this sounds weird, but the box it comes in looks like absolute shit, anything ive ever bought, that was good, came in a nice box, again, weird but, thats just me.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-908&depa=0 much better power supply, will power your system with ease.(also notice the nice box ;))

Thanks for the reply thebliX but I was originally planning to buy this:

Thermaltake W0014 Silent Purepower 480W
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=17-153-007&DEPA=1

or this

Aspire 520W 12V Black Triple Fan Aluminum Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=17-148-008&DEPA=1

I decided against those because of pricing, the powmax psu had very good customer reviews so I just assumed I would be able to get by with it and its only 25 bucks so im guessing thats why their wasnt much money put into the packaging. Can you or anyone else reading offer any other suggestions for again a psu that is about 25-40 bucks.

the cheaper psu's are more likely to hit the crapper, so, if u have a 1000$ system with s 40$ psu, and it craps out, and it takes your 1000$ system, well then your screwed, but if u spent 65$ on the Antec PSU(VERY reliable PSU, have one myself, along with a ocz powerstream 420), there would be a much lower chance of everything fucking up, remember not everything is wattage, its more about quality.

yeah i suppose you're right. Oh well, I was gonna spend 400 bucks on a geforce 6800, 45 on a Cooler Master Hyper 6 Heatsink, spend some more on some case fans and a fan controller, might as well through another 50 bucks in the mix to get a good PSU. thanks for the help thebliX.

I suppose this thread is done. unless anybody else would care to comment.

My only comment would be to second what was said, and also that your current enermax is both higher quality and more powerful than that Powmax :DIn addition to the Antec True line, check out the Enermax Noisetakers and the Fortron stuff if you're on a tight budget

I Have seen an power supply for $69.95 which is a 650watt Aluminum Dual Fan ATX powersupply. It has 4 AC ports and 3 DC external power outlets. Really you could plug in your computer to the wall and run the power cord from the monitor to the powersupply. also run your speakers and networking equipment.
I'm Not sure who makes the powersupply, but for that price I would buy one to replace the Powersupply in my dual Pentium 3 xeon.

For a closer look at the powersupply, I leave you with this link:
http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/searchdetail.asp?T1=163+0192

Thats a raidmax/(insertrandomwordchunkhere)max supply, all of which besides Enermax are generic as hell. Where are the real specs? Where's a quality, in-depth, under-the-hood review of that supply with AC ripple testing and controlled loading at controlled temps? Until i've got all those things, I wouldn't touch that supply with a 10-foot pole

So your telling me every powersupply under $67.95 is a piece of shit. I just happen to own an Enermax Powersupply, I haven't had any trouble with this powersupply even if it cost under the $100.00 range. I am like many people out there, we are not rich enough to affort new equipment, so If we find a deal, we will go for it. I am getting tired in these forums saying that Antec is shit, Enermax or any others are junk. There are many people in these forums that will agree with me that sometimes the cheapest powersupply will last for a long time. And even though the powersupplies are from manufactures that you have never heard of, they may make some pretty good PC parts.

Like a post in this forum says Price doesn't always mean Quality.

I would advise Vertigo Acid to shut up, Everytime I post in a thread, you have either have shut me up, or forced me to shut up because you don't want to hear a person speak his or her mind.
So If Vertigo Acid has something nice to say, say it, if it isn't nice don't say a damn word.

Scorpion, Vertigo's right. WE're NOT telling you that every psu under $70 is junk. BUT EVERY 650W ALL ALUMINUM TRIPLE FAN SUPER DUPER REDUNDANT PSU UNDER $70 IS PURE CRAP NO IF'S, AND'S, OR BUT'S ABOUT IT. But the good thing for people that can't/won't spend a lot of crap is that you don't need a 650w PSU. Here's a great psu that will outperform the antec 480w trupower that only costs $47 shipped:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-966&depa=0

There are good deals out there. But you have to be smart about it. Your reccomendations are going to kill peoples computers. Vertigo's will not.

I am running a dual Pentium 3 xeon computer with an Allied 350watt power supply and I am power problems with it, tried an 450 and still the same problem. Some times I loose power in the hard drives or other drives because my 2 xeons require extra power. So I am trying to afford something of a powersupply of 550 or 660watt to supply enough power to my system. Redundant is out of the question, I ran one, and got rid of it. The motherboard was struggling to maintain power with a redundant Powersupply.

I have noticed that I will have to shell out alot for the antec 550 true control, so if I get the 650watt with the external power outlets that is listed for $67.95 is the cheapest to buy just to get my system right on track, I will buy it. And I will then review it for myself, then tell you about it. These problems have nothing to do with the OS or other hardware, in case your wondering if the video card has something to do with it, I am running a geforce 4.

Haha, that gave me a good laugh for the morning... Antec, shit? Enermax, junk? So I guess that's why i've been accused on occasion of being an Antec !!!!!! and run a couple of Enermax supplies in various machines  News flash: I'm a student! I don't have tons of cash to blow on equipment either. That's why I buy quality power supplies. $50 extra now will save me $$$ in the long run. I can't afford to replace my whole system(s). Guess what else? A lot of my stuff is from e-bay or fs/t... and I got good deals on it. Antec Trueblue 480, $50, Vantec Stealth 520, $80, Enermax Noisetaker 470, $70, Enermax 300, $25.So just because I would consider myself a "conisuiser" of fine PSUs doesn't mean I break the bank with them. You say that sometimes the cheapest power supplies last a long time, eh? Well, i'd rather not have that much of a crap-shoot; I'd rather get a supply that I know will last a long time, as proven by quality reviews and anecdotal evidence, not a 1 in 100 chance of getting a good one. Did you even read that forum? Like the post detailing why it was probably crappy? If you were looking for a car, would you buy from a big name like Ford or Chevy, or would you save some cash and get the Daihatsu? You sir, know very little about what makes a power supply quality, so I would advise you sir to shut up. And how exactly do I shut you up? I'm not a moderator, so I obviously can't force in that matter. If I refute something you say, if you are "right" in your mind shouldn't you be able to rebuttle back? Power supplies should be 99% fact, 1% opinion. And that 1% opinion is for things like OCZ. If you mistake the passion and forceful wording of my posts as "not nice", then you need to grow up and stop taking things so personally.

With all due respect sir, you STILL don't get it....sigh....

Your problem is that you are STILL trying SHITTY power supplies. When you DO save up for a 6600000 watt allied, you're STILL going to have the problem. Get a Fortron 530w for $77 shipped to your door and you will NOT BE ABLE TO HOOK UP ENOUGH HARDWARE TO OVERWHELM IT. I bet you $100 you won't be able to reach its limits.

Well here a comment to your post, I am also a Student but I am taking MCSE, I have been looking for an job in the IT field for 7 months and the only thing I could find is a contract Job. I have started up an PC Business on my own, I myself get the reviews from word of mouth or other places.
I struggle with school and other things, Cash is short around the house, I can only afford some items every three months. So If I can get two items that are cheap and within the budget for the month, I will get the two items. If 10 people say this powersupply is good and two that say it sucks, I am going to listen to all the people on their opinion, am I going with the 2 that says it sucks, No I am going with the other 8 people that says it is great.

Quality I see, is when I buy an powersupply and lasts for years versus a powersupply that last one month or shorter. These powersupplies maybe generic or a popular brand, price doesn't mean everything. I am in the budget for a powersupply that is cheap, gets my pc's working and it could be any brand. Yes I buy Antec, I get Enermax, I get Delta, I get Allied Power or any others, they work, I have no trouble with them, if it goes bad I will replace them with the same companies or something else, that fits within my budget of under $80.00. I get my parts cheap from ebay, discontinued parts warehouses or discount places.
I want to save money to have something extra in my wallet, than look into my wallet and see nothing in it because I payed a fortune on a powersupply.

I would rather go to the PC store than worry about the item in shipping it to my house. I only do Money orders for Items, I worry enough about having a credit card stolen or identity theft. Paypal is way out of the question, I read your stupid post. $77.00 is well beyond my price range for a Powersupply, As I said I am not rich to afford an $100.00 Powersupply, my antecs have lasted me 2 years, my allied has lasted me 3 even with a lightening strike to it. So If I buy shit, I will get shit for a PS, what part of can't afford to buy an $77.00 or something with in the range powersupply don't you understand, I am having money problems as it is.

I am not stupid, I had money before I was laid off as a press operator, before that time, I had one PC running an 350w Antec, I paid at least $90.00 at Microcenter and shelled out the cash to Buy Belkin and APC UPS units. At this time, I own 6 pc's that I have built up from 2 years ago, Now I have to go as contract jobs come up and save up for something even if it maybe shit.

And by the way, when I type the replies, I don't know if anyone has posted to it yet, I am not a fast typer. I am only 24 years, I admit I maynot know everything, but I will give it a try.

obviously you're just bullshitting us here and getting a good laugh out of it....you just said like 5 contradicting things in your last two posts. Oh, and don't try editing, I just quoted you.

Don't call my posts stupid when you can't even fucking think straight let alone post straight.

I was meaning I get some parts on Ebay not all parts, and Yes I do worry about having some items shipped to my house, like motherboards or computer cases. Yes I must have my head up my ass sometimes to post what I do. I was pissed off earlier and started shaking abit, so my mind might not be where it is suppose to be. So I don't know everything about computers, even if I am A+ certified which really doesn't say too much. But I have realized that most people in these forums know a whole lot more than I ever will.
But it even more sucks when my teachers stick me in a Learning disability class because I have Asperger Syndrome, and you wonder why I must not know to much, or know shit by matter of fact.

Please read this page fully out to understand what I have to live with each day of my life, and how it may offer me a challenge I may never beat.
