What I am planning to buy:

What I mainly want from this machine is to be able to play BF2 and CS:S at very high settings on a Dell 2005fpw(1680x1050) at 60fps with nooo lag, i hate lag. Thats the only thing that i'll be using this computer for that's demanding.

Now for the questions:
- Will 500watts be enough for this machine? I wont be doing SLI and at most i'll be adding another hard drive down the road.
- How is the motherboard that I picked when it comes to over clocking? I'm unsure if I should just pay a bit more for the P5B Deluxe.
- I plan on running Vista but have heard a lot of problems with parts, drivers, etc.. Everything in the list will work with no problem right?
- Any suggestions for more cost effective parts?
- All this will be going in a Lian Li V1000 and if all goes well I'll have a pretty kick ass computer!

Ordering in a week or two. As a reward for helping me i'll update with pics when its all together

edit: Just finished reading a couple of threads about BF2 running on Vista and some loss in performance. I'll stick to XP for now then, but will still be making the switch eventually.

Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400
$136.80 after rebate

beyond that it looks good. our systems are very similiar. I went with the Corsair 500W power supply. about same price. I expect to max out around 400 watts. I also added 2 blue cathodes. :D I need to update my signature....

How far do you plan on OC'ing? The P5N-E SLI can go pretty high:

But I'd suggest some better ram, since you'll need some crazy high FSB speeds if you want a good OC out the E6300. Look into the Buffalo Firestix or Patriot xP LLK sticks. They both use micron chips and can OC very nicely. If you only plan on a 7*400=2.8Ghz OC, then the G.Skill sticks are fine. I wouldn't waste my time with the Corsair rebate to save $4. I've used the G.Skill sticks in several builds, and they work great off the bat. While the G.Skills and Corsair reach around 430-450, the micron chip based sticks should definately reach higher than that; probably around 7*500=3.5Ghz, if your chip can handle that, hehe.

$205 - Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 PDC22G6400LLK ($50MIR)
$190 - Buffalo Firestix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 FSX800D2C-K2G

Here's the ram list: http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/

If you want to shave some money off of that HSF, go for an AC F7Pro for around $20, or the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B for around $40.
$40 - Scythe SCNJ-1100P Ninja Plus Rev.B 120mm CPU HSF
$24 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU HSF @ us.ncix.com
$25 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU HSF @ xoxide.com
$22 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU HSF @ directron.com
$22 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU HSF @ svc.com
$19 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU HSF @ eWiz.com

I'd skip the PSU. Head over to jonnyguru.com forums for some better recommendations. The Lian-Li is a Sirtec... while it isn't bad, there are better choices out there. Do you need 500W? No. Should you get a 500W PSU? Sure... for upgradability. For around the same price as that lian-li, I'd go for the Corsair 520W instead. Its around $106 from ZZF.

I'll stick with the G.skill sticks then since I dont really plan on doing any [H]OC'ing.

As for the heat sink, how is the F7 Pro vs the Zalman? Main reason why I chose the Zalman out of all the other heatsinks is just aesthetics, but if cooling is the same between the two I'll go for the F7 Pro since that'll leave me a little more room for the Corsair PSU.

edit: sound is also a factor. The computer is in my bedroom and the quieter, the better.

thanks for all the help so far!
