Need help building a firewall PC.

This firewall PC will be built using old PC parts I have. Which are Core2 Duo E4500, 4GB DDR2 RAM, DG35EC motherboard.

I'm new to this type of build, This firewall PC will be connected to the home network, I want this firewall to be able to show me active connections at any given moment, not just the IP addresses from outside, but with their domain names, and give me the ability to block things which I feel are attacks from outside.

What free firewall OS will allow me to accomplish this, And how would I go about setting up the system? Will it be one of the computers connected to the main router and other devices will get access to the Internet through this PC?
