ok i worked hours on this new pc and installed xp, overclocked for hours and finally got to where I want it, i started quake3 for some testing and boom windows crashes and reboots.
I then get this screen. windows can not start because

C:windows\system\system32\config can not be found. Please use system recovery by pressing "r" on the first screen of the windows Xp setup disc.

Ok so i tried that but it just says to insert floopy. I dont even have a floppy drive. Is there ANYWAY I can save this system without having to format again and reinstalling everything?

Did you try booting from the Windows CD? If I recall there are two ways to do the recovery during the process. The easier way may be to find a floppy or bootable DOS cd image and create a win98 bootdisk to see if you can get to the HDD in DOS then copy whatever file you need [seems to be CONFIG.NT] to the specified folder. Otherwise a reformat may be necessary

looks like im going to have to just format. The power connector for the floopy drive has melted... but thats another story.
