need help asus P5N-D issue!

so i have an asus p5n-d motherboard which reads the cpu temps wrong. I have tried changing the cpu cooler, updating the bios, adding new thermal paste on northbridge. What else can i do to fix this temp issue? Feels like theres not much left to do. :(
 
it shows 55c to 60c for a q9300 A new cooler comes in today... i guess i will try it on and see how that goes I will post back on here if temps are the same. i hope not :(
 
Try loading up coretemp and see what it says, it's supposed to read the temp from the on-die cpu diodes.
 
ok I will load coretemp once i have the new cooler installed. its a zalman 9700 btw

55-60C when? idle, load?

If it's idle, that would be too high, under load not bad at all.:D

I use cpu-z Hardware monitor for my cpu temps.

Also check your CPU voltages in some kind of monitoring software and the BIOS. Make sure what your CPU voltage is set to is what your actually seeing. NVIDIA chipset based boards tend to over volt things.
 
i'm talking 55-60c idle. so yes it is hot. and to think it still ran at 76c which is really hot!!! :p
 
I would recheck the HSF.......

The mechanism for seating the S775 HSF can often leave one corner or the other loose, not allowing the heatsink to contact the heatspreader well and therefore increase the heat.

Secondly, check the BIOS so the CPU fan runs 100% duty cycle also.

What is the processor and what is it clocked to?
 
its a q9300 quadcore stock clocks. I haven't checked voltages yet but i will as soon as the new parts come in.
 
ditto on rechecking the heat sink, had the same problem and everything looked fine and the heatsink seemed firm but there was one pin that hadn't quite "clicked" all the way in and I suspect that it made the contact area tilted on the CPU and thus the poor heat draw.
 
Idk if this will help but make sure yours HSF is pluged in the correct port could read wrong if you have it pluged into wrong fan port. mobo should tell you witch port is for cpu.

That won't change the temperature reading. It should alarm showing a failure of the CPU fan, but no temperature issues should arise from that.
 
or if it was swapped with the sys fan no alarm since they'd both be spinning but the fan control would be on the wrong one and not cause it to increase speed as the temp went up as a possibility
 
must of been a pin or something because when i installed it and put new thermal paste it was reading 30c :) but now on new motherboard same problem :(

True but, but you typically know it when that happens because the board will give you an error about the CPU fan not functioning during POST.
