Need help about warranty?

So I found a NIB Intel i7-3770k for $150 and it is sold as is.

I do not have a way of testing it so I am wondering how Intel handles a warranty claim if and when I test this CPU and it is bunk will they allow me to RMA it w/o proof or purchase.

Most companies that I have dealt with have no problem RMAing an item, hell they don't even ask for PoP but I have never tried Intel.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, move it if need be, this is my first time posting,

I am pretty sure it's serial based, so no proof of purchase is necessary. However if it's an OEM processor, you'll have to take it to the OEM for warranty.
 
Ok, so I am out of luck?

Should I even risk buying it bc that price is delicious and hard to pass up, but at the same time throwing money away is still throwing money away.
 
Only you could decide whether or not the lack of a warranty (the worst case scenario) and the risk of DOA is worth the price.
 
True. So I'm still confused by this answer "I am pretty sure it's serial based, so no proof of purchase is necessary" if read this way I am covered by warranty and should buy it?
 
I really hate doing that as I know I'm probably not the first person to call them and ask but the paranoia of tipping my hat when calling them is high. :) I will maybe call them this monday if I can't find the answer.
 
Call them and tell them you lost your reciept.... and wonder if anything happens to it in the future can they tell if it is still under warranty..by some other means :D
 
TY to everyone who gave input. I have scoured the net also and come up with a 50/50 answer. They will either ask for PoP or they won't. So I am going to give it a shot bc the price is great for the unit and hope for the best. Thanks again guys.
