So i have a i7 920 I bought in early 2010. So at this point its 6 years old. its oc to 3.4 from 2.6 And has been for the 6 years. I have 12 gig of triple channel memory. Older sata HD, 770 video card. It pretty much does what I want, and plays the games i want no problem, and I play a decent amount of games....

but I have a step son with is getting into gaming and turns 12 in march, so I was thinking of giving him this rig. Plus I want usb 3.0 and a SSD. So its time I think to build, and I was thinking skylake? Will i see a decent improvement? Which I wait to see what is out in march?

Ive had 2 processors in like 10-12 years, this awesome amd FX 55, and this i7. So I was hoping what i move to next, does the same thing.

So is moving to skylake the right move? Is a sizable improvement over what I have? Thanks for any thoughts and advice.

I have an I7 920 and I moved to the I7 6700k skylake, I felt it was a noticeable improvement. Take that for what its worth.
