ok so im putting to get a cheap am2+ rig and i would like to be able to atleast do some light gaming(cs1.6/cs:s, and some similar games)
its just a quad 1.8ghz and im swinging for 4gb of ram, havent picked out a psu but im trying to stick with the low power range (400w range psu wise)

what video card should i go with that would be best for this? im looking at older used cards only as i just dont have the extra funds for a newer card atm..
so i was thinking in the ranges of 8800gt and up or 3850's and up? but i remember these being a little power hungry so im not to sure

geeks.com had some new ATI 4850's for $42 last week. not sure if they still do. Otherwise check craigslist for a geforce 9800GT/GTX 4850/4870+ dont spend more then $40.

edit: geeks still does, $40.99 -- but id check craigslist first for 4870 / 9800GTX.

edit2: geeks has GTS 450 for $49. pretty cheap way to get directx 11 and decent performance.

yea i seen them, actually think i told you about them chris... or maybe it was a diff member.. either way im shooting for a used card i can find on the forum... i seen a 9800gtx on OCN for $35 im trying to get ahold of him to get that but just seeing if there were any suggestions that i may have missed. been to focused on bikes and cars lately so havent been keeping up with what cards can do now days

What kind of price range are you looking at? You might be better off with a low-power current or recent gen cards (like that GTS450) over an older high-end card. You'll get similar performance (depending on what cards you are looking at) with significantly lower heat and power draw.

$50 and under atm, might be able to push 60-65 if its actually worth it but it really just initially needs to be better than the 2 cards in my OP
