Need GPS/computer (laptop) combo for $300

Hey all,

I'm trying to put together a gps laptop solution for a friend. he was looking at MS streets and trips 07 for $100 with GPS unit and was looking for a laptop that supports it for $200 or so.

Any suggestions on a viable setup for around this price range? Are there any FOSS GPS solutions? Thanks.

For $200 you oughta at least be able to get a modern PIII laptop. With 256MB of RAM (probably less really) and Windows 2000 it would be a good match.

Add in an laptop power 12V adapter (cig lighter) and it should be all systems go.

ST2007 w/ GPS isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Sometimes gotta manually reroute and the voice gets annoying but it's accurate and 12"+ screens are for the win.
