Well I finally have some cash to uprade the memory on my system. (XP2100 Epox 8rda+) I built it last year and have been using 1 256 meg stick of generic pc-2100 from my old thunderbird system. The board will go to around 180 FSB speed before crapping out, although I might try that voltage mod when I get some faster memory to run sync. I'm looking for recommendations for 2 X 256 or 1 X 512 of pc3200 or pc2700. I only want to run up to 200 FSB, so pc3200 doesn't need to oc at all, or with pc-2700 it would be nice if it could oc a little bit. Cost is a big concern but I don't want to just order the cheapest generic off of pricewatch. Last year everyone was raving about the dimms with Winbond BH-6 chips. Is there any good/cheap solutions out now ?
Any links or specific brand recommendations would be most appreciated. I'm looking for good value, not the best on the market. I probably won't upgrade or do anything with this system for at least a year or so. TIA :)

well, my suggestion is buy from newegg.com or a reputable dealer that will allow rma of memory...
The other seggestion is buy a good known brand (kingston, corsair etc.) and buy the low latency (cas 2.0) as this will help with overclocking...

Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM

For the money this is some good ram.
I have mine running on 210mhz fsb @ 2-3-3-5 w/ 2.9v voltage.
If you want better memory you will have to pay more... but for $84 this is damn good memory ;)

Edit: I ordered my memory over 2wks ago and it was like $6 cheaper
Looks like memory is going up a little in prices.

Compare the Value select to the XMS.
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200C2PT - OEM

$139
Cas Latency: 2-3-3-6 1T
Support Voltage: 2.6V

2 x 256MB PC3200 Corsair Value Select is what I'm running... passes Memtest86 with flying colors.

Yeah the corsair value select looks good. Thanks.
Funny thing is, on the 256 sticks from newegg the CAS 3 costs 47 but the CAS 2.5 costs 46 !

What's the performance difference between 2 X 256 duel channel compared to just 1 X 512 ?
If it's just a few percentage points I'll go with the 1 X 512, it's cheaper.

Someone was telling me that Buffalo memory from newegg was good, but it's only like 2 bucks cheaper then the value select stuff.

buffalo is a good brand but I'd still go with the corsair or kingston - do buy the lower cas level ones...
as for performance - dual bus vs single bus - expect about 5% boost with dual, generally and a little bit more in memory intensive programs...

I had buffalo tech pc 3700 with bh-5 chips. works great. does 11-3-32 @210mhz w/ 2.77v (recommened) which is much cheaper then the high quality pc3200.

Their pc3200 which i have in my current rig is running 11-3-3-2 2.77v @200mhz will probably run at lower voltages but i just got it. It is rated @ 2.5 while the value select corsair ($3 cheaper) is rated at cas 3.

edit: I scrolled down a bit and saw the cas 2.5 corsair which seems to have gone down in price. I would buy those if i were you.

Ya Corsair Value select is rated cas2.5

Well thanks for the advice. I ordered 2 sticks of 256 meg cas 2.5 Corsair value select pc3200 from newegg. Total 92 dollars. Should get here soon. :)
