Relatives, being what they are, never really have a concept of what a young technophile like myself needs for Xmas, so usually I get Border's gift cards. At Borders, their selection of headphones is rather limited, but I told them to 'gimme all ya got'. So I ended up with a pair of Koss Pro3AA Titanium Headphones.
Quickly following christmas, I purchased myself an HP Pavillion zv5000 laptop and am now trying to connect the two and get sufficient audio quality. The PC came with SoundMAX onboard audio.
My question is, do any of you know of good equalizer software that can adequately reproduce what I heard when using these headphones on a normal CD player and not the crap I am hearing now? Any good equalizer program will work, but if it has been tested with either this soundcard or these headphones, I would be most grateful.

That is all.

EDIT - After testing out several different pairs of headphones, I have found that it is the fault of the headphones and their acoustics (my 7-year-old sony wraparounds work fine with no equalization). If anyone knows a good, standalone equalizer that will sit in between any audio program and my sound card, please let me know.

An equalizer can't turn crappy integrated sound into quality. However, Foobar 2000 has an integrated equalizer. So does nearly every other music player out there. Otherwise, I'd reccommend that you get yourself a better soundcard.

Foobar2000 has the best equalizer of any music program I have used. You should give that a try. You can get equalizer presets here .
