Need gamepad suggestions

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Thanks to Steam, I have a large collection of arcade/side scrolling games that I find would be easier to play with a gamepad. I have a PS3 and had no success getting a DS3 to work properly with my computer (see signature). If anybody has had this work successfully, let me know.

Otherwise, does anyone have any recommendations on a good, but affordable (looking around $30) gamepad? I was thinking of picking up a wired 360 controller, but the d-pad is meh. If it is the best option I'll just go with it.

fwiw - there are drivers out there for every single console gamepad ever made [well not really but close]

i know i've used ps3, nes, snes, dreamcast ... so on and so forth - so it's really a question of what you want to use...

hell i was using my wiimote with my pc the other night

for anything that doesn't need an analog stick, i use the snes pad ... yea you have to buy some adapters... but in the end it's totally worth it...
