Hi there, I put a post in the SFF section but I thought this is a better place to put a thread! :rolleyes: It will be going in a matx case, which is why the powered CPU block is a good idea to save space!

The hardware will be AM2 X2 6000+ and 2900XT, with a possibility of upgrading to Phenom and 3870X2 or similar gfx....but will never go crossfire or sli as its too xpensive

Here's what I have in mind:

Pump/CPU block - Swiftech Apogee Drive 350
to
Black Ice 240 Rad (or possibly a slimline one)
to
EK 2900XT GPU full cover block
to
Black Ice 240 Rad (")
and back to pump

What do people think? Will be running 4 Yate Loons pushing air out through the rads (would it be better sucking air in through them?)
 
bump, decided on the loop order, although I might put a micro res in before the pump block..
 
Pulling air through a rad is generally better since doing so disperses flow more evenly through your rad. You'll need to have slightly greater exhaust force to make this work well.
 
Ah ok, thanks for the advice. On my old setup I did push-pull but that would mean 8 fans! I won't be able to manage a greater exhaust force with such a small case, but I could pull through the rad and out of the case I think.

No problem. One simple way to increase your exhaust would be to balance the fans you use. A fast one here, a slower one there basically. I'm sorry I don't know much about SFF cases. How many fan mounts does your case have?
 
The case has a 120mm at the back and an 80mm at the front, but some of these may be taken up with watercooling parts, not sure yet.

I think the rear 120mm is a good one to put a high CFM quiet(ish) fan, then run all the fans on my controller (which lets me put two fans in series). This should just about do it, as my PSU also has a 120mm fan. It might be hard to balance right though, without speeding up the exhaust by so much it sounds like a jet plane!!!
 
in my opinion better to buy separate apogee or other block + separate pump swiftech mcp350 will be enough, price almost the same, results better a lot ;)
 
Yes the case will be heavily modified to allow fitment of all watercooling parts etc

I wanted to use the apogee pump/block to save space, I'm not after ultimate performance, just enough to have room for a small overclock (not max oc) if you understand... but maybe if I use a very small pump + a decent block. price is not almost the same here in england lol :(
 
That's kick arse! Please post pics of the work and final product. I've always greatly admired people who can cut their own cases. DDC pumps are relatively small and still have a nice punch. They also can be mounted in some very interesting ways. How different are the prices in the UK?

I popped for two of these for my last build and I haven't been disappointed. They're mounted on industrial Velcro. ;)
 
Just a quick note almost completely off topic, but go with the Phenom if you want to OC as you won't be able to get above 3.27 on the 6000. I bsod or just flat reboot at 3.28 and above and many others see the same thing.
 
roary - yea I will eventually, the 6000 I already have, it's enough at the moment for my work (CAD etc). Phenom will be when I get paid next month :D

MrBloodshoe - lol thanks, they're 13" btw ;) Any bigger won't fit without major arch work (note - big fat hammer).

I have seen a DB-1 made by D-Tek, looks like a really compact pump, ready to use out of the box.. Will it be enough for the loop?
 
At 6 1/2 foot head the DB-1 is on the light side, but it doesn't draw a lot of wattage either. It depends on the type of block you use, and if you're good with having to buy another pump if you decide to move up to an impingement block and/or multiple blocks.

13" huh? It most be my rapidly aging eyes... :)
 
right I've done a lot of research and have read a review for the "Swiftech Apogee Ultimate Liquid Cooling Kit". this kit runs an apogee drive block, two GPU blocks and a triple rad, as well as a micro res.

Since I only have one GPU block I aim to run one dual rad, and see how it does. If it doesn't quite manage to dissipate the heat, I'll add another single at the back of the case.

My luck's not going too well though - while waiting for the rads to get in stock, the apogee block went out of stock. so the shop has literally nothing for me at the mo :(
