I need to give the essential information about folding@home to the dean of students. If you remember, iSkylla, me, tried to get BU to put F@H on internet kiosks. They ignored me. Unfortunately, folding really hit home hard when my dad was diagnosed with stage 4b pancreatic cancer a few days ago. Well they're taking me seriously now after another e-mail. Help me out here, I'm kind of occupied with other stuff as you can imagine. Thanks.

Depends on the computer really....differences for me are usually around 30-60W, pretty much because only the processor is using more energy. Tigerbiten would probably have more info on this

Im guessing these pc's are fully loaded gaming rigs, so on average I would hazard a guess at an extra 50 watts. Mere pennies a day per computer folding for a cause.

Some are Apple Minis, others are basic dell P4s.

Hopefully folding will turn out a cure for my dad.

Yea my P4 1.8 is about 40 watts over idle when running FAH....it really isn't that bad, though I can see where it would add up over an entire lab

If power usage is one of their concerns, maybe you can convince them to unscrew every other light bulb in a few of the class rooms. That should more than make up for the minimal power used by a properly utilized cpu.

Too bad the search function is down--there was a very good thread a couple years back, with example presentations and everything. Anybody have a link by any chance?
