Im looking for a computer display.

I will use this computer for everything from gameing to watching movies to school stuff.

Ive got a budget of about $600. Can you recommend me a good display?

Should i go with a 22" or get a 24"? I am a total newb and need help :)

Also is there the possibility of watching hd content on a computer? I will need an hd display to view them right?

Thanks for your help [H] Forum(ers)

There are lots of topics about this but ill take the trouble of making it a little more clear to you;) .

There are 3 kinds of panels (and 'many' variations to them) (as you maybe already know)
TN
MVA/PVA
IPS

All three have there better and worser things.
TN - fast reaction times (good for gaming). But really weak viewing angles and color reproduction - primary if your hardcore gamer probably
PVA/MVA - Allround panels, overall good color reproduction, good viewing angles, reaction time good enough for most usage
IPS - best color reproduction, best viewing angles

Now you have to settle with which resolution you would want. If you plan on watching 1080p material you'll need a 24" (1920x1200 resolution) to fully view it. It is for your allround purposes, the best to get a 20" (PVA/MVA/IPS) or a 24" (PVA/MVA). Since the 22" ers only have TN panels, so thats more a hardcore gamers 'inch range'.

You could buy a nice 24", like for example the Dell Ultrasharp 2407wfp, which has a S-PVA panel. There are ofcourse lots of other possibilities.

Yes you can watch hd material (if you have it) on most displays. 720p (1280x720) plays on a 17 inch to 'infinity' screens. If you want to view 1080p material (1920x1080) you'll need a 24" display with a resolution of 1920x1200. If you plan on watching HD-DVD or Blu-Ray you'll need a display with HDCP (which most new screen have), and a videocard with support for HDCP.

Hope this helps a little :)

Thats very informative thanks :)

I was thinking either the HP w2207 for a 22"

as for 24" im stuck between the

Dell 2407WFP-HC
BenQ FP241W or the
BenQ FP241WZ ?

Can some one give me pro's and con's of these 4 monitors? or mabye suggest a better one?

and if it makes any difference ill probably be geting a quad core and an 8800 gtx (not sli)

So i think ill be fine at the both the 22" and 24" native resolutions

Go for a 24 inch panel, I just picked up the LG246WPBN, very happy with it, cheaper than the BENQ and you can buy it in a retail store which is always a safer bet than online/ mail order where returns can be difficult and costly.

Currently the LG is 599 at Best Buy it's also at circuit city, neither of them give you any trouble if you have to return a defective LCD within 30 days which is more than I can say for Newegg and others.

Stuck pixels? with newegg you will just be stuck.

Both the LG and the BENQ are superior to the Dell 24 inch panel

I will definitely go with the biggest screen.. well at least 24"

but I'm torn between having bigger screen or glossy screen, I have a NEC 90GX2, and I love it.
I wish there will be a decent glossy screen for 24" monitor soon.
