Motherboard:
1 x Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3 iP965
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=437659

RAM:
1 x GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2

Case:
Coolermaster Cavalier 3

PSU:
1 x Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W PSU
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=116522

CD/DVD Drive:
2 x LiteOn 18x DVD+/-RW/RAM Lightscribe- Bare Black OEM

Floppy Drive:
1 x Sony Floppy Disk Drive

HDD:
1 x 320GB Seagate 7200.10 SATAII/300 8.5m/s 7200RPM 16MB Cache-OEM
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=115418

Processor:
1 x Intel Core Duo E6400 Boxed:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...9kdWN0X3NwZWNpZmljYXRpb25z&product_uid=112708

I have put them all together, and i cant see any notable issues, but when I press the power button, the fan in the GFX card and psu kind of wobble then go back to where there were- nothing else does anything.
Then, if I am not pressing the power button etc... but the psu is plugged in and switched on, no light comes on on the mobo...

In desperate need of help as am with my uncle (a pc expert) helping me put it together.

Thanks very much, Glynnder.

PS. This doesnt make a difference, but when we were fitting the cd drive one of the jumper pins came off, its a sata one though, so that only matters if I were to want to use it with a sata I port, anyway, we tried it with a different HDD too, no cigar..

Step one, take the motherboard and psu out of the case and try running it on the bench. It's possible you left a mounting stud in the case that is shorting out the mobo.

It's also possible that your board is trying to boot with a ram voltage that is too low for the ram you have. Even though it's rated from 1.8 up, you just might be on the low side. Possible cure, grab the cheapest ddr2 ram you can find and try booting with that. If that boots then you can set your ram voltage higher, turn off the machine and plug in the good ram.

Another thought is trying to boot without the video card. Double check that your cpu fan is plugged into the cpu fan plug, some mobo's need to see a fan there to boot.

Make sure your 4 or 8 pin aux power plug is plugged in. Make sure your video card external power is plugged in.

Random late night ideas, but worth a try, Luck :)

Great thanks, I haven't tried that, my ram is ultra low latancy, but i'll have a go wwith some DDR1 RAM?

Have tried without video card, ill try with mobo outta case.

Ill report back in abt 10-15 mins

no. DDR1 is not compatible with that mother board. What you need to do is buy cheap DDR2 ram, something that is not ultra low latency.

something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145528

also make sure all your connections are tight, your heat sink is seated on your processor with a proper application of thermal grease, all the front panel connections are made to the mother board. If you are not installing with xp sp 2 or above then you computer will not be able to recognize all 320 gigs of your hd, it will only "see" 136 gigs. Make sure you double check that all the posts for the motherboard are in the right spots and all have screws.

hope this helps

You could also try running it with just one stick of RAM at a time to almost rule out faulty memory, since it's so very unlikely that both modules would be bad.

ALL RAM should boot at the default 1.8v that's giving you problems.

So, you have 2 options... Buy a really cheap stick of DDR2-553 RAM (like a 256mb stick) and use it to up the voltages...

RMA your RAM... As it doesn't conform to the JDEC specifications.

I bench tester the mobo, and got it to work after playing around with some stuff, after a few hours I had got it to the stage where it was in the case and working, just needing to connect up the peripherals, did that and finally got it to work, its installing Windows (Linux to come!) as I type, thank you very, very much for all your help!

Be forewarned that your PSU is nothing more than a 500W or so PSU with a 650W label slapped on it. I was kind of wondering if it was the problem until I saw your last post. All the same, don't expect worlds of performance from that PSU.

500 Watt is plenty for what he's using.
