We are using Win2k3 standard in AD and I want to have content control to block websites. Anyone using an inexpensive option? Thanks.

How inexpensive is inexpensive? Check subscription based like SonicWall (you'll get an appliance router)

I was just recommended this-

Linux + Squid == win.

Install proxy box, turn off all port 80 and 443 access for all machines except proxy machine, follow this guide: http://www.linuxheadquarters.com/how...ng/squid.shtml

Probably easiest to install fedora core or ubuntu server version. Gentoo is good if you have balls.

Proxy is great, but still doesn't quite give you the content filtering you need -- Unless you want to manually block all the millions of different websites out there. New websites pops-up every few minutes. Subscription based content filtering will allow you to at least address this issue. Just my opinion.

clarkconnet and endian, not only use banned sites list, but also scan for keywords on pages which you can set the sensitivity, we use it at work, works very well

For enterprise solutions, my first recommendation is always Websense. Second would be Squid + DansGuardian.

I use bluecoat at work. They rate the pages and put them in categories in which you can block. pron or gambling, hacking, etc. sites.

We have a sonicwall here at work. It's about $1000 a year for subscriptions as well as the box itself.. Not inexpensive .. It all depends what you consider inexpensive.. There are other "software" solutions.. Most good ones will cost you about the same.. I had been exploring similar solutions for our company and came across these

Terminator X block not just web sites but apps, i.e. msn messenger, Limewire etc http://www.warrensoftware.co.uk/
