I read the FAQ
So far it seems to me that all I need to hook up 2 computers, is a router. I have a DSL Modem and I noticed that on a 4 port Router there is a spot labeled WAN. I am assuming that the WAN is an "input" from the Wide Area Network that would be my DSL provider?
So this is how I would set up my system.
1. The Line IN provided by the phone company containing DSL access would hook directly to the DSL modem via the phone jack (standard setup).
2. The DSL modem Line OUT (RJ45) cable would then plug into the WAN port of the router.
3. The twisted pairs or (RJ45) straight through cable would then branch out to each computers NIC coming from any of the 4 Line OUT ports labeled 1-4. So I can basically hook up 4 PC's this way.
Do I have this correct? Also would this allow a LAN connection to do head to head gaming via direct connection (like a crossover cable) AND access to the internet for each PC?
Is there anything I am missing...does the router work independently from the operating system or are there drivers to install and does one PC need to act as a "server"?
