According to intel ARK and other places haswell-E like 5930K and 5960X don't support ECC but I see other places saying they do support ECC memory.

Haswell-E does NOT support ECC correct?

I have Xeon E5-1680 v3 with 128 GB ECC RAM in a X99 motherboard, all runs perfectly in Win/Linux.

alright thanks guys for the feed back. I figured as much but wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something like there was a work around on the MB side that was found. Similar to the unlocking of some feature or OCing (forget what it was but MB companies really pissed off Intel when they found that work around) that went on a year or two ago.

I wish Es supported ECC or Xeons were unlocked :/

Depends if you are referring to 2011v3 xeons or i7, xeons yes, i7 no

If Intel Ark says it doesn't support ECC, it doesn't support ECC.

Certain non-workstation MB's can take Xeon's, which support ECC memory.

Haswell E is not a xeon CPU or at least the general use of Haswell E refers to 5930K and 5960X as I stated in original post

EDIT: that is a 2011V3 so does that support ECC? According to Offical Intel ARK it does not support ECC unless there are two different versions....

It sucks for people like me who need single thread really badly because I can't use xeons due to locked multipliers. I am single thread starved.

Single slot Xeon's can be multiplier overclocked.

can you elaborate....Also if that is even possible you would loose ECC right on that MB?

I really need good single thread and ECC :/

Any of the single socket 2011V3 Xeons will are unlocked, just like their consumer i7-K counterparts...All you need is a X-99 MB with the latest BIOS..The MSI X-99S is a popular choice due to it's lower cost, and yes it offers ECC RAM support...How this helps!

interesting...I PMed a guy for details. I am still weary about this since I have not sen any major site say this is possible.

I really want ECC and OCing :/

Why? The advantage of ECC is slightly better uptime, reliability, and stability. You're going to introduce instability when you OC, so you may as well not use ECC.

from what I read having 64-128GB of RAM it is recommended to have ECC and I plan on using RAM for various things that data corruption would be a bad thing and OC doesn't cause instability issues as long as your not an idiot.

Just a heads up, if you are single thread starved then I take it performance is an issue for you... are you aware that ECC is slower than non-ECC? The error checking comes with more than a monetary cost.

how bad? does getting higher quality and faster ECC of set? Is that relevant on DDR4? I would be surprised if thats an issue going from DDR3 to DDR4 even with whatever penalty your talking about.

Also when it comes to photoshop and select programs i am single/multithread limited but for everything else i am single.
