need case suggestions

i'm planning on using my antec sonata for my future htpc, so i'm on the hunt for a good case for my gaming purposes. anyways, i'm looking for a decent, inexpensive case with a side window, and room for lots of fans. basically i'm going to mod this case, so the cheaper the better. i have a psu ready to go and i'll be outfitting it with panaflo fans most likely.
 
ok since no one responded so far, i'll make it simpler:
-mid size case
-lots of places for fans
-good amount of bays
-side window
-black or silver in color
i'm used to antec and coolmaster cases, so build quality is definitely important, however the cheaper the better. oh and i have a psu ready for it.
 
if you're going to mod it yourself and you want a cheap case that you can put lots of fans in with plenty of drive bays then you're looking for an old beige case most likely.

i have an old case that used to house a server at my dads work that i'm planning on modding. its got six drive bays not including the floppy bay and a removable hd rack and a fully removable mobo tray and more than enough room to work in and place fans. the only thing wrong with it is all the steel is heavy and harder to cut than aluminum also it has a top panel that needs to be taken of before the side can be opened but i'm planning on modding that problem away.

and as far as build quality if it had all these features back when 100mhz was fast i'm pretty sure its high quality

I don't know how you'll find a case like mine but if you look i'm sure you could find something that fits your needs for cheap (mine was free when my dads work upgrades their computers).
 
well right now its between the Chenming 301 and the Raidmax one i posted. anyways, both cases accept several 80mm fans, but i was wondering how difficult it would be to use 92mm fans instead in the front and the rear? and any comments on the build quality for both?
 
from the looks of it on both of the cases you are looking at putting a 92mm fan on the front will be fairly easy, but putting a 92mm fan on the back of the raidmax case will take a little more work
 
well from all the newegg reviews the rear now comes with spots for 2 80mm fans. would putting a bigger fan in the front merely consist of drilling new holes for the fan and using a holesaw to take out the restrictive metal? and should the side fans be used as intake or exhaust fans? also would it be a good idea to add a blowhole and if i decide to used 80mm in the front, would two be good enough? i'm not too concerned with the noise as i'll have fan controllers for everything, but am more concerned about getting good air cooling.

On page two you can see where a guy moded his case to accept 2 92mm fans in the front and a 92mm fan in the back.

Darn, for the price this looks almost like a real Lian Li!

Sure looks like a good deal to try out some mods on it, and not worry too much about screwing up a 200$ case.
 
i was thinking about that skyhawk case, but the raidmax looks better imo and has the type of window i was aiming for. plus at only $30 and with a good review from anandtech i think i'll be getting a good deal.
 
My dad has a very similar model to that raidmax, although without the window and in silver. Its actually pretty nice for the price. (i belive it is from aspire)

Eaither one will be good for the price im sure.

and am now considering this over the raidmax, pretty much because of its bigger size and knowing its well built. i'm trying to keep the price below $75 with shipping so this is pushing my budget just a bit. but yea, this looks like it has more than enough cooling potentional and i'm sure four vantec tornados (2 rear 2 front) will cool my oc'ed system. so would this be a good route to go or are there any other cases i should look at?
 
Chieftec makes a case called the Dragon. With a window it will run you about $50. Shipping may be as high as 10$.
You can choose form two blue (one with a window fan, one without), and a yellow.

those look good, but i'm pretty intent on black or silver so i'll keep searching. also those seem identical to the chenming one i posted, are they the same, clones, etc?
 
I can't be sure, ive never owned them. All I know is that for a year or two, thoes were popular cases, and many diffrent companies made them. There might be very small diffrence, but not much. Heck, even alienware used a case very similar to those before their new design came out.
