I'm in the market for a new case and psu. I've got about $150 to spend. I may pick up a Fortron 400w psu so that leaves me around $75 or so for a case. Or else $150 for one with a decent psu.

I don't need anything fancy. Just something with at least 4 - 3.5 bays and 4 - 5.25 bays. And has a good amount of places to stick 80mm fans. I've got the fans so it doesn't have to come with them. I'd also like USB 2.0 ports in the front, but it isn't necessary. And something that is made solid. None of those sharp, flimsy cases that I can bend with my pinky.

I've looked at a ton of cases, but was hoping for some personal suggestions from people. Thanks!

Neither of the brands I buy come with PSUs, but you really can't match Coolermaster and Lian Li in terms of quality. I'm sure some people with say Antec cases, and they do come with god PSUs, but I've had 4 of them of various styles and given them all away. They are shitty in build and quality compared to the two brands I mentioned.

I agree. I personally have and recommend this Lian Li case. It's great, though you *may* want to add another fan placement to the back of the case, as there's only one. There's room to add another though. With getting your PSU, you're going to run over the $150 you were talking about, but it'd be worth it. BTW, this is a pretty sweet PSU as well, esp. for the price.

I'll definitely look into that psu, for around the same price as the fortron it is larger and will probably be better for future expansion. That case does look nice, but yeah, it is a bit out of my price range right now. I'm pretty much locked in that $150 area. But I'll keep an eye out and see if I can find a cooler master or lian li refurbed. Maybe I can get a deal on one.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a variation of this coolerguys case and love it. It's large, easy to work with (I love the removable HD cages) and has spots for 4 80mm fans. Unfortunately it doesn't have the front USB ports, although you may be able to find a similar case from another site with them as mine has it.

Edit: Found an Antec model with the front USB: link.

That case looks just like the Antec PlusView1000AMG

Which one do you guys recommend? The Plusview I heard is steel and weights 27ibs. I need a new case and that's what I've been looking at.

I'd say go for it. That is a very popular case and has alot of room to work with as well as decent airflow.

It's at CompUSA for $99.99 and NewEgg for $65. I'm so impatient and don't want to wait, but I'll place my order later today. What fans do you guys recommend me to get? And is there a spot to mount a fan in front of the case to act as an intake or blow air on the HDDs?

In the chieftec version I have here there are two 80mm fan mounts in the front of the case. I believe the antec is the same.

If it's like the Antec 1040B, then there are mounts for two 80mm fans in the front and two in the back. Dunno if that one has a blowhole on top or not?

BTW, I like my Lian Li better, but my 1040B is pretty nice as well... :D

Nothing wrong with those cases. They have tons of room, offer great cooling and are sturdy as hell. Of course, they're also heavier then hell if you have to lug it around...

I only have to move it at most 4 times a year when I go back to school and come back home. One of my first computers, a PII350 was in an aluminum case and as a feeble, young kid, I was able to move it around.

Any suggestions on what fans I should get? And PSU?

antec, forton, and pc power and cooling make good psus. PcPowerMakes Very Good Ones.

Fans well that is a matter of prefrence. Do you care about noise?

No: Tornado 5700rpm = watch your fingers ;)

I picked up that Thermaltake psu. I found it for $60 after shipping with a 3 year warranty. After looking at cases for a few hours, I was thinking that I may just end up using the $80 or $90 bucks I have and upgrade my video card. I would make more use out of that right now.

So thanks for the suggestions, but keep them coming for other people. Plus I'm going to note all these. I'll probably buy a new case by the end of the year anyway.

If you're worried about noise, you can use Panaflo or Vantec Stealth fans. I use Vantec Stealth fans in my Antec 1040B and my XP2600+ stays plenty cool in that case.
