Need another option than Windows XP Mode

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and have been using Windows XP Mode for a while with no problems...I have some older custom programs that I use everyday at my office and they will not run in Windows 7, so I have to have XP Mode.

Recently, Windows XP Mode has been causing me all kinds of grief and I am ready to ditch it for something else...if there is something else. The problem with XP Mode is it will give me an error "intergration features have been disabled..." and will go no further. It took me almost a whole day to fix it last time it did this about 2 weeks ago. It did it again today.

So, any options to replace Windows XP Mode, that don't cost an arm and a leg?
 
You could try downloading the free version of MS Virtual PC and then setup a VM using that of Windows XP. Same can be done with VMware Player i believe. That should give you a couple different options. I guess it just depends on if there's any special hardware the XP VM would need.

XP Mode is pretty much a MS Virtual PC that is created automatically. Have you thought about using Oracle VirtualBox? (It's free.)
 
I'd recommend VirtualBox. With Seamless mode turned on, it's even better than XP Mode. There's a patch for it that will let you open up and run the same exact VM image that XP Mode uses so you don't have to worry about configuring anything.

I downloaded Virtual Box and getting ready to install it. What is the patch called for using the same VM image? I don't see it on the download site...I only see an extension pack.

Not sure if it's been updated for VBox 4.2. There's a version here for 4.0, you can give it a shot and see if it works in 4.2.x. It's just a replacement BIOS file.
