Need advice on what to get: HD6970 or GTX580

Well depends, the 580 is the faster card, but it consumes more power.

considering how the HD6970's prices aren't budging for some odd reason... and the GTX580's prices have been dropping like candy... I'd take the $380 GTX580 over the $340 HD6970... getting a HD6970 over a GTX580 at this time is only excusable if you already have a HD6970 in your current system and is looking to crossfire

GTX 580, its the better product and also you get the extra effect from PhysX compatible games, something we see once and awhile.

I suppose it also matters its ref v ref or custom cooler/pcb whatever

the twin and tri fan 69xx's OC well and stay VERY quiet and cool
