need advice on thermal paste

I'm just about ready to switch my dual core for a quad in one of my notebooks since i found one at really good deal and i was wondering what would be the best thermal compound aside from AS5 that i can use on the cpu considering the chip is exposed not having a heat spreader, I was looking at the coollaboratory liquid pro but i found out it attacks the aluminum base plate on my cooler anyone got any better ideas on what i could go for?

And yes my notebook is compatible with quads and the cooling solution in it is rated for higher wattage cpu's, I just to keep the temps down as everyone else :p
 
Really imho i wouldn't lose sleep over it .
my self i use the stock white goop more often then not.
I don't care all that much about 2C difference.

I found this on [H}ard|OCP home page.
Funny seeing some reviews out their were they claim 10C difference from one brand to the other.

I cant help thinking someone getting a payoff when i see numbers like that on one review place and not the other.
imho just stay away from compounds that conduct electricity and or are destructive in any way shape of form and its all good ;)

I remember reading one review long time ago were this was used as well .
Funny thing is it was a top performer and scored top marks in the review :D

I've been out of touch with the latest tech and i thought that someone by now would have over-throned AS5 :D oh well looks like im sticking with it thanks for the assist :)

P.S. can i use AS5 on exposed chips that have no integrated heat-spreader ?

Arctic Silver 5 in my opinion has better alternatives these days, there are many pastes that have advantages in either easier application, removal, non capacitive, better performing, cheaper, or have some special properties.

Arctic Cooling MX-3/4 and Arctic Silver Ceramique for instance are both easier to spread/clean and are not even capacitive (completely safe). They are both cheaper as well.

If you want something that might be better IC7 Diamond or some of the Shin Etsu's are, but don't expect :eek: differences.

Something a thicker compound like IC 7 Diamond might be better for is if the heatsink has poorer contact with the chip. This won't be the case for desktop CPUs, but laptops for instance some of the contact points on the sink are not completely flush against the chips.

I mean if you have it, there isn't going to be anything new earth shattering to make you run out to buy new paste. At the same time unless you have bias towards the brand, I think there are a lot more better options available including one from the same company.
