Need advice on older hardware

Guys, I'm putting a spare rig together for the girlfriend. She wants to play wow and d3 as well as other games on steam.

Here is what I have now :
Case
Corsair hx620 PSU
AMD Athlon II X3 455 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103911

Biostar TA970 AM3+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138372

Can I use the mobo/CPU or am I spinning my wheels? Also is the PSU good to run newer AMD GPU's like the 280x? It would only be a single gpu.

The PSU and motherboard should be fine. Try out the CPU and if it is not fast enough, get a faster one.

Will any am3 cpu work on that mobo or am I limited in any way? Any cpu recommendations that would drop in?
