Need Advice on my First Mac

I am a graphic/web and have always used Windows OSs (2000 and XP). In college I used a G4? for classes and stuff. Using windows I never really had any problems with running apps like photoshop, flash etc etc...but EVERYONE keeps telling me Macs are better for graphic/web design and post photography production.

I need advice on what I should get machine wise and monitor. I design a lot, and am looking for something more efficient (and honestly something that looks more appealing to me as well.), and I won't run into as many problems (cause windows is such a "stable" OS.

Intel iMac or the new Mac Pro would fit the bill depending on your needs and budget.

What kind of stuff do you exactly do? Do you work with huge DPI imagry? Saying you do graphics work is such a broad term.

How important is exact color representation on the monitor for you? If it isn't that too much of an importance then the iMac and Cinema display should be fine.

Ah, yeah...I work with very high DPI scans and photos and exact color representation is a must.

Honestly, Macs are no better than PC when it comes to image or video editing. What's under the hood is what's important. If you don't want to use Windows, OS X is the way to go.

Right now may not be the best time to switch though, since Adobe still hasn't gone to Universal Binary yet (CS3 will be compatible), so the experience might be worse.

Yeah I heard about this today. When will CS3 be released? If its not too far in the future, I will consider waiting, if not Im not sure what I'll do, might just build a solid PC with a good Vid Card and Monitor.

Winter or Spring quarter last I heard.

Gong with a Windows machine isn't a bad idea if you can't wait. As said earlier there really isn't that much difference when working with graphics. The biggest difference is probably the workflow.

Also, I thought macs have better resolution when it comes to graphics.

Monitor resolution? Not at all. A 20in Cinema Display yields 1680x1050. 23in yields 1920x1200. 30in yields 2560xsome number. Pretty standard resolutions for those sizes.

I remember back in the day Macs ran at a different dpi than windows machines (~100 vs 72). I don't think that holds true today.
