So I purchased an Audigy 2 back in Febuary, and I got the Creative SBS450s. Now, this 4.1 "setup" at 41 watts isn't much of a powerhouse. So, I've recently considered and planned on purchasing the Z-5300s from Logitech. They're the cheapest THX set I've seen, and from what I've heard, a great value. Then I got to thinking... if I'm going to plunk $150 (after shipping) on speakers, I might-as-well get a REALLY nice setup, so I can be set for a few years. So my friend has a set of the Z-680s, and he says they're amazing (he's off in Nebraska for the Air Force...). So I'm pretty much thinking I'll get the Z-680s, but here's where you guys come in.

I was wondering what a good set of speakers would be in the $200-$250 area. Doesn't have to be exactly that amount, can go over. I'm not too worried about volume, as I'm sure most speaker sets over $200 get fairly loud. I do, however, want some power behind them. What I'm really looking for are good mids and highs... I prefer quality over quantity. If nobody offers any real solution to the problem, I'll probably just get the Z-680s... but I'm not ordering until next week, so if I'm making some horrible mistake in audio-dom, there's time to tell me! :)

Oh yeah, and don't hesitate to IM me on AIM or whatever if you'd like to call me an idiot for my ignorance in the realm of audio. ;)

First of all, 7 forums down from this one is the Computer Audio area, where you might find more relevant information.

Having said that, have you looked at Klipsch's offerings? Their Promedia 4.1 set might be what you're looking for. I have the 5.1 set and I have been very happy with them. If you like big bass, Klipsch is the way to go. They also reach very high volumes with great sound.
