Im buying a LCD soon but Im not sure which one of this two is more suitable. I will use it mostly for gaming, watching dvds and surfing the net

Acer AL1731 http://global.acer.com/products/monitor/3_series.htm

LG L1715S
http://www.lg.ca/downloads/specs/computer/L1715S.pdf

These are the main differences I have observed:

LG +20 contrast
LG +10º vertical viewing angle
LG -4ms response time
LG -8W (On) -1W (standby) power consumption
LG -115€ price

ACER +0.5 million colors
ACER +DVI
ACER +S-VIDEO
ACER +Speakers
ACER +Aluminium

The Acer has an interesting DVI connection, but it is also 115€ more expensive and it has 20ms response time, so I suppose the LG would be better for gaming?

"-4ms" is the DIFFERENCE between the response time of the two monitors; the Acer has 20ms response time and the LG 16ms (notice the minus sign before the 4 :p)

I prefer the DVI connection, but people who have spent some time setting up their Analog/DVI connectors say that they can get them to match each other. Since you want it for gaming primarily, I'd go for the LG, based on specs alone.

I <3 DVI. I don't think it makes sense to run an LCD on analog. So based on that I would choose the Acer or really any quality digital LCD.

And that hercules 17" flat panel is supposed to be good for gaming. It has a 20ms response and it outperformed many of the 16ms monitors in tomshardware's review. So the 20ms on the acer might not be bad.
