I need advice on this, so I lean to the experts at water cooling. I do not overclock, let me start out with that :) Here is my rig currently:

gigabyte 754 motherboard (will have to find model when I get home from work)
athlon 64 3200+ 754
2 gig ddr
radeon 9800 pro 256mb (plan on replacing with x850xt 256mb)
dvd-rw drive
x2 36gb raptors in raid 0
300gb ata drive for storage
game theater xp, zalman 5.1 headphones w/ amp
buttkicker w/ amp
random usb perphs'
antec case
powersupply I will have to find out when I get home also, I just remember it was 179.99 at fry's, it's navy blue color with an adjustable fan control on the back.

I would like to change over to water cooling. I am sick of fans, they drive me nuts (my computer sounds like a jet engine). I would also like to sound proof the case (gromets (sp?) on the case screws, HDD screws, you name it.

I want to make this thing as silent as I can.

As far as watercooling, I would like to watercool the processor, the video card and if you guys think I need to, the power supply. Anything I missed? Thanks in advance!!
 
More details, and possibly a pic of the case would be helpful. Watercooling powersupply...no. Its never been done well, nor has it been worthwhile. Now some questions for you -
What size fans does the case use?
How do you feel about modifying the case? this will dictate rad type/placement.
Price range and/or prefered manufacturer? This too will help in selecting parts.
You should probably watercool the vid card too to truly minimize noise. A passive heatsink on the northbridge, such as a zalman, will rid you of that (probably) noisy and ineffective fan. To start, panaflow fans can be wisper quiet. Give me some more details, and I will help you start configuring parts. (also I have to run, work is kicking me out :p )
 
I am pretty sure it's this case:

Case takes 80mm fans.
I don't mind modifying the case.
Price range 300-400? manufacturer depends on you.
Def. want to water cool the video card (it will be a x850xt 256, getting one from my local microcenter, already called, they have tons, for 199, can't go wrong)

Also, I want to quiet ALL noise down in the case as well, any ideas for that? At work I run a mac mini and my laptop is a pismo powerbook, I am used to virtually silent machines :) My gaming machine (this one) is just a noisy beast at present.

My system is extremely quiet and I have a X2 3800 @2.4GHz and a 7800GT being cooled.

Do you value mobility? If you don't ever plan on moving the PC, you can use some more exotic methods to eliminate the fans on the radiator.

If you don't want to mod the case too much, you could swap it for an Antec SLK3000-B. Rubber grommets (sp?) for the hard drives, 2x120 fans, and a duct for the CPU fan if you stay with all air cooling. I have one, and am thinking about buying a couple more for my other systems.

My silent system includes:
MCW6002 (No opinion on the Apogee yet)
MCW55
Via Aqua 1300 pump
Custom passive radiator made from 60ft copper pipe.
Antec NeoPower 480W
120MM Yate Loon
120MM Antec on lowest speed

The first time I turned it on, I thought it wasn't working until I heard the motherboard beep.

Mobility = never :) That's why I have a laptop. Basically, I just want this thing to run cool and quiet. (The whole system).

more pics of this case for those looking to help - here looks like its about as large as my case, I have 2x 80mm in front and back as well. I of course do overclock :p but with the rad's 120mm fans at 7v, the loudest part of my system is the hard drives! .blurry pic here If you would like to keep everything internal, I would suggest modifying the top of the case to take a 120mm rad. paired with a low speed panaflo, and we're off to a good start. Im going to be honest and say I'm not sure now if big bore/small bore would be better for a purely quiet setup, so I'll continue on here assuming 3/8 or 1/2 ID tubing. I suppose a tdx or apogee would be a good choice for cpu block (as I recall the storm doesn't shine under low flow), and the shiftech mcp655 or dangerden d5 pump (im pretty sure its the same thing, just rebadged). the pump has a potentiometer on the back, so you can adjust the pump speed to meet your ear's needs; i run mine at full speed and my hard drives still make more noise (all 8mb cache ata100/133). For the graphics card a dangerden maze4 GPU block would be easiest, the swiftech mcw55 is also very nice, however getting ahold of the 1/2" or 3/8" barbs is kind of a pain so just go with the danger den. Add some ocz ramsinks and the video is taken care of... A bay resevoir would be easy to install, but there are others available, and I think for this system a simple t-line may be enough - this is more up to your preference, noise or performance shouldn't be affected. For additional noise dampening, many sites have entire sections dedicated to quiet pc needs, such as this one here at xoxide for example. i'll let some others offer their opinions as well, never trust just one source. Finally, I would like to apologize for this outrageously long and grammatically-poor post :eek:

*edit* for spelling errors and to address concerns about the apogee - I couldn't open mine up to check for shaving, as one of the screws was rounded off when I got it, but its keeping my old 3200+ winchester at 33c under prime95 small fft load at 2.53ghz...get this..at 1.8v!! It is unlidded, and the Primochill ICE temp i nthe resevoikr is 31c. Room temp around 72-73f. I would say the apogee performs :)

I am open to doing ANYTHING here. Tearing the case down to nothing, putting everything back in w/ the new water cooling stuff and sound proofing the whole case, no big thing. This is my gaming rig and that's all I do with it, nothing else. I have a 21" IBM p260 hooked to it for gaming, other than that, I use all LCD's and laptops.

ok then. nice power supply. with several components from the quietpc section at xoxide and a few others, we can make one hell of a quiet pc. and by the way, comparing to a mac mini or powerbook isnt fair, they are nowhere near the same class in performance. My g4 1.5ghz powerbook with 1gb ram is garbage in pretty much everything I do (rendering, encoding video) compared to my pc so lets not go there :p (also go in to the options and change cpu use from auto to performance, then run folding@home or something to hear the annoying fan kick in). Anyway, are you looking for a part breakdown here, or still looking for more overall suggestions? Now that I've laid out the basics of the parts, let me know where you want this discussion to go. im going to look into some more on noise dampening at a few different sites.
 
I am all set on a parts list. I am ready to do basically whatever you think is best here. If you have any sort if IM program, feel free to PM me w/ it. Would be schweet.
