need advice for upcoming build please

I am shifting from my intel system(specs in my sig) to the Phenom II platform in Jan/Feb 2009. The motherboard I am buying is a current midrange Gigabyte or Asus board. My question is before I get the Phenom II; which AMD AM2(or AM2+) processor should I buy to be sure I can flash the MB bios to the needed version. I really do not want to be stuck dead main computer.

Decided to go with a AMD 64 X2 5200+ to start out with. Thank you for at least looking! :)
